POSITION SUMMARY The Public Works Labourer I is responsible for performing the daily tasks required to assist in all aspects of outside maintenance operations, which includes: roads, drainage, landscape, cemetery maintenance & projects, snow removal, fleet and grounds maintenance as directed.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1-3 years experience working in a civil or industrial construction and/or maintenance environment
- 1-3 years experience working with hand tools, power tools and/or heavy equipment
- Experience working with Indigenous communities is considered an asset
- Knowledge of safe work procedures and understanding of safety culture is considered an asset
REQUIREMENTS
- Criminal record check with results acceptable to WFN
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and an annual driver’s abstract in excellent standing which is to be submitted annually
- Successful completion of WFN’s workplace physical assessment
- Knowledge of computer basics (Word and Excel) as well as other electronic devices
- Ability to work outside in any type of weather
- Willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation

- Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Certificate
- Air Brakes Endorsement

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES
Position Focus:
- Assists in the performance of a variety of maintenance tasks related to roads, bus stops, drainage systems, landscape projects and grounds maintenance including but not limited to digging, raking, weeding, pruning, mowing, trimming, clean-up, brush clearing, litter pick-up
- Operation of equipment and power tools such as tamper, power rake, aerator, top dresser, lawn mower,
weed-eater, pressure washer, saws, drills, miscellaneous hand tools, etc.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including shift work, overtime and emergency call outs
- Ability to work in inclement weather
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position, and as directed by the Supervisor
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation laws, policies, standards and procedures and as directed by the Supervisor

- Performs manual labour duties as part of the department's landscape and infrastructure maintenance activities and to assist fellow crewmembers to ensure economical, cost- effective, and efficient use of resources
- Performs specific administrative duties ie. Timesheets, HSE forms, leave requests, pre-trip inspection, etc.
