Summary
The Quality Engineer will support and promote quality improvement efforts in our battery development and pilot manufacturing operations. This position will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, laboratory, and operations teams to establish and maintain robust quality processes. Coordinates Corrective Action and Continuous Quality Improvement. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic, quick-paced environment within the rapidly growing battery industry. The role offers hands-on involvement in advanced battery development and pilot manufacturing, with the opportunity to work alongside a multidisciplinary engineering team, take on meaningful responsibility, and grow professionally as Flex-Ion expands its battery technology and manufacturing capabilities.
Job Duties
- Provide daily quality engineering support to the battery pilot manufacturing line.
- Establish, monitor, and document process and product quality-control metrics throughout battery cell manufacturing.
- Verify that manufacturing processes are operating within established specifications and quality requirements.
- Review production and inspection data to identify trends, process variation, defects, and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and maintain control plans, inspection criteria, quality procedures, checklists,
and manufacturing quality documentation.
- Support incoming material, in-process, and final product quality activities.
- Ensure proper collection, traceability, and documentation of manufacturing and quality data.
- Investigate non-conforming materials, processes, and battery cells and coordinate appropriate containment and corrective actions.
- Lead or support root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions using structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Support the development and maintenance of PFMEAs, control plans, work instructions, and process documentation.
- Participate in manufacturing trials, process-development activities, and design-of-experiment (DOE) programs from a quality perspective.
- Support battery cell testing, characterization, validation, and correlation of manufacturing parameters with cell performance.
- Support customer quality requirements, audits, and documentation as programs progress toward commercialization.
- Support activities as assigned by Manufacturing Manager.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Preferred 2-5 years’ of related quality engineering experience, preferably with lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing or battery development.
- Knowledge of Six Sigma.
- Knowledge of production process, machines, tools, including design and uses.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office and the use of statistical software.
- Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize.
- Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with an attention to detail.
- Enthusiasm for challenge and new initiatives are prerequisites.
- Strong analytical ability.
- Supervisory and interpersonal skills are required.
- Troubleshooting ability is required.
- Strong decision making and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated positive internal and external customer service skills.
- Good presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects.
- GDT/Blueprint reading.
- Engineering specifications and understanding.
