Under the supervision of the Quality Manager, the candidate will carry out tasks related to the physical and chemical tests needed for quality control and/or product development. In addition, they will perform all analyses and studies necessary to support monitoring product characteristics and improving existing products. They will be responsible for keeping equipment and the lab in order, performing basic maintenance, and staying in touch with specialized technicians for each device.
Mandatory travel to Drummondville Quebec for training, possibly 4-6 trips between date of hire until January of 2027. Employees will work/ train in Quebec for 2 weeks, and then return home for 2 weeks (off). While in Drummondville, employees will work 12-hour shifts.
THE CHALLENGES WE HAVE FOR YOU
Construction/ Start Up Stage
Assist with construction quality oversight by verifying the installation of chemical-resistant surfaces, monitoring contractor workmanship, and reporting any deficiencies. Participate in construction progress meetings to track project status and address quality concerns. Support safety and regulatory compliance by confirming the installation of required safety equipment, reviewing WHMIS/GHS requirements, and ensuring appropriate laboratory safety signage is in place.
Laboratory Equipment Receiving and Installation
Receiving Inspection of Equipment
Finished Product Testing Equipment
- Universal testing machine (compression), Dimensional measurement instruments, Core density testing equipment, Thickness gauges, Digital calipers, etc.
- Confirm proper installation and location of: Balances,
Ovens, Climatic Chamber, Instron Machine, Heat Flow Lambda Meters and Chillers, Freezers, Band Saw, Dust collector, Other test equipment
Support and Assists the Quality Manager in the Process and Site Qualifications and Certifications
- UL/ULC, ASTM, FM, CCMC, Greengaurd, Intertek
Assist in the Calibration and Qualification of Equipment
- Develop and maintain calibration schedules, verify calibration certificates, coordinate IQ/OQ/PQ activities, establish calibration status labeling, and manage a calibration tracking database.
Laboratory Documentation Development
- Assist in developing and implementing quality system documentation, including SOPs, work instructions, inspection and test forms, equipment logbooks, sample tracking procedures, deviation and nonconformance procedures, and document control systems.
Quality Management System (QMS)
- Assist in establishing record retention requirements.
- Assist in developing corrective action procedures.
- Assist in preparing training records.
Method Validation and Verification
- Assist with the implementation of test methods.
- Assist with verifying that methods meet product requirements.
- Assist with establishing control limits and acceptance criteria.
Inventory and Consumables Management
- Set up storage locations.
- Verify chemical storage requirements.
- Label shelves and storage cabinets.
- Establish reorder levels.
Training and Competency
- Participate in vendor equipment training.
- Review and help trainings for personnel on SOPs.
Other Duties
- At the discretion of the Quality and Plant Manager.
Fully Running QC Laboratory
- Carry out in-process analyses, take samples on the production line, and perform physical and chemical tests (if needed) for product quality control.
- Release products in the computer system.
- Review and analyze results with the Quality Manager.
- Complete documentation related to quality deviations.
- Enter test results into the computer-assisted production management system;
- Calibrate and keep laboratory instruments in order.
- Check and restock the laboratory supplies inventory.
- Provide any necessary training to production team members to perform their work, if needed.
- Perform any other related tasks requested by the R&D; Project Manager and the Quality and R&D; Manager.
- Participate in analysis to monitor product specifications.
- Help optimize existing production formulas.
- Write experiment plans for factory tests.
- Take part in developing new work methods.
- Write reports on the progress of work and analysis of results.
- Organize and take part in machine trials with other departments.
- Enter new tests into the MRP system (software).

Your Education
- College diploma in a laboratory technology or another related field: chemistry, plastics, etc.
- Relevant laboratory experience.
Your Knowledge :
- Have knowledge in laboratory sciences.
- Experience setting up new laboratory Equipment and Qualifying.
- Able to write reports.
- Experience with polymers (a plus).
- Written and spoken English.
- Written and spoken French (a plus) but not required.
- Ability to consult and understand safety data sheets.
- Ability to work with Excel (advanced level).

The Work Conditions
- Always wearing safety glasses and safety shoes.

- Wearing a cartridge mask, gloves, and coveralls may be required depending on the tasks.

- PPE for Construction site when required (hard hat, steel toe shoes, safety glasses, ear protection)
Your Physical Requirements :
- Handling and lifting construction materials.
- Handling and using Power Tools and equipment such as: Band Saws, Knives, Belt Sanders etc.
- Working in warm environments when working inside or around the production line area.
