Job Summary
Under the direction of the Sr. Manager, Business Development, this position provides planning and strategic leadership across three core portfolios: inclusion services, marketing and outreach, and community engagement, in support of recreation programs and services delivered to City of Markham residents. This position establishes the framework, operational standards and policies for the delivery of inclusion and adaptive programming, provides research and data driven direction to marketing and outreach initiatives across Recreation Services, and leads the community engagement portfolio, including Recreation Service's annual calendar of community events and the recruitment, coordination and recognition of volunteers who support Recreation programs and events.
This position researches and understands community needs and demographics through trend analysis, and explores creative approaches to service delivery excellence. This position leads a team of three full time staff and oversees a broader team of approximately sixty part time staff across the inclusion and outreach portfolios.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the department's inclusion camp service and programs;
- Develop and maintain the strategic framework, standards and policies for the delivery of inclusion and adaptive programming across Recreation, Libraries and Culture, and other Corporate service areas;
- Provide strategic direction and consultative support to Recreation staff and functional program areas, including camps, aquatics and fitness, on inclusion, adaptive programming and behavioural support practices;
- Coordinate marketing and communications on behalf of the Department and support functional teams (Camps, Programs, Aquatics and Fitness) in developing their annual marketing and communications roadmaps;
- Provide strategic direction on the Department's annual community events schedule, including the establishment of operational standards and parameters for staff to achieve service excellence;
- Lead the recruitment, coordination, training and recognition of volunteers supporting Recreation programs and community events;
- Provide research, statistical analysis and trend analysis to support data informed decision making and program planning across Recreation functional teams;
- Act as liaison for City of Markham advisory boards and committees, including but not limited to the Markham Mayor's Youth Council, various Committees of Council and Social Service Agencies;
- Provide leadership, coaching and direction to full time and part time staff across the inclusion and outreach portfolios.
QUALIFICATIONS
- University Degree or College Diploma in Recreation or appropriate discipline
- At least 5 to 7 years supervisory experience in a recreation or customer service environment
- Extensive knowledge of seniors, youth, inclusion and programming methodology
- Current certifications in Standard First Aid OR Intermediate First Aid with CPR ‘C’ and AED
- Extensive knowledge of social services and community resources dedicated to vulnerable populations
- Experience with legal requirements and designated certifications required for the operation of aquatics, fitness and program services
