The BC First Nations Justice Council is expanding and needs a Legal Assistant in Victoria. This full time position involves assisting lawyers by drafting documents, organizing client information, and aiding in community outreach. This role emphasizes a client-centered approach to addressing legal challenges faced by Indigenous peoples, fostering a supportive work workplace.
Key Responsibilities:
• Prepare and file legal documents for cases
• Update client files in the Clio management system
• Review and sort legal disclosures from various sources
• Maintain organized scheduling for legal meetings
• Engage in community events to build relationships
Requirements:
• At least 2 years of legal assistant experience
• Knowledge of Indigenous cultural practices
• Strong skills in record keeping and MS Office
• Ability to handle confidential information effectively
• Team-oriented mindset valuing team-oriented work
Play a key role in the Indigenous Justice Centers, focusing on addressing systemic barriers in the legal system.
