Retail Operations & Cashier Assistant RETAIL OPERATIONS & CASHIER ASSISTANT

MISSION THRIFT STORE

ST. CATHARINES

Six-Month Contract | Part-Time | $20–$22 per Hour

Position Summary The Retail Operations & Cashier Assistant provides dependable support to the Cashier team and Store Manager, with a primary focus on opening the store, cashiering, customer service, and general administrative support. The successful candidate will work alongside volunteers and management to help keep daily operations running smoothly.

This position provides consistent front-end and administrative support where volunteer availability can vary. The goal is to strengthen daily operations, extend opening hours, provide reliable cashier coverage, and reduce the routine administrative workload on management.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist with opening the store and preparing the front end for the day.
- Provide cashier coverage, including breaks, absences, bagging, customer service, and checkout support.
- Assist volunteer cashiers with questions and routine customer service situations.
- Operate the POS system and handle cash accurately.
- Provide administrative support including data entry, reporting, filing, and general office tasks.




- Assist with technology, computer systems, marketing, design, signage, and promotional materials as needed.
- Support management with routine operational tasks and projects.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, safe, and welcoming store environment.
- Work cooperatively with volunteers, customers, and staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Store Manager.

Qualifications

- Previous retail, cashier, customer service, or administrative experience is an asset.
- Solid customer service and communication skills.
- Organized, dependable, and comfortable working independently.
- Basic computer skills and willingness to learn new technology and systems.
- Ability to accurately handle cash and operate a POS system.
- Positive attitude and willingness to work in a primarily volunteer environment.

CONTRACT AND SCHEDULE

- Six-month hourly contract at $20.00 – $22.00 per hour, depending on qualifications.
- The position will normally be scheduled five days per week with rotating Saturdays as a must (unless arranged with Manager), with typical hours of 9:30am – 2:30pm.
- Additional hours may occasionally be required based on operational needs, with the expectation that the position remains under 35 hours per week.
