Job Role Description
The Associate Mine Water Engineer supports defining and ensuring the integrity and performance of surface and/or groundwater management systems in a mine. A general understanding of hydrology or hydrogeology, and best practices for design and operation, are necessary for this role to ensure reliable water management systems are performing to operational and regulatory standards.

Job Role Responsibilities

Design: support the development, design, and implementation of strategies to manage surface and/or groundwater in the mine and outside the mine, taking into account process‑affected and release water systems. Conduct research / training to stay updated with advancements in water management practices.

Evaluation: define short, medium, and long range plans for water management systems, evaluate current methods and technologies to enhance system integrity. Evaluate existing data to inform performance and additional design work / implementation.

Execution: use standards and best practices to meet specific hydrological, hydrogeological, mechanical, civil,

and environmental requirements, ensuring work complies with industry standards, methodologies, and safety regulations.

Surveillance: conduct regular inspections of water management systems, investigate issues, evaluate performance of systems, recommend preventative and reactive maintenance / best practices and update design as required. Use surveillance data to inform the site water balance and use.

Operation: use site standards and industry best practices to operate the various water management systems at the mine. Be aware of the site water balance and water demands between the release and process water systems. Ensure appropriate water management tools (retention time, treatment, erosion control, pumping systems) are implemented to assist with meeting regulatory and production requirements.
