Position Summary Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, Licensing & Enforcement Compliance, the Animal Services Officer is responsible for monitoring compliance of the Town’s by‑laws related to animal control, noise, licensing and community standards as they relate to domestic species and wildlife. The role also provides humane capture, handling, transportation and euthanasia of both domestic and wildlife species and enforces the Town’s Traffic & Parking by‑law.
Key Responsibilities Patrol assigned areas, respond to and document all inquiries and complaints from the public, law enforcement agencies or other animal services officers with respect to the enforcement and administration of Animal Control, Clean Yards, Business Licensing and Noise By‑laws.
Preserve public safety by handling and transporting sick, injured, dangerous or deceased domestic and wildlife animals in a safe and humane manner to shelters or veterinarians for impounding, treatment, disposal or rabies investigation.
Clean, disinfect and maintain up‑to‑date records for municipal vehicles and equipment.
Conduct kennel inspections and prepare reports regarding the requirements contained in the Town’s business licensing by‑laws.
Cover after‑hours "on call" shifts to provide response to emergency calls.
Enforce the Town’s Parking By‑laws, monitor compliance, respond to complaints and requests for enforcement of parking prohibitions.
Coordinate towing of unauthorized vehicles in accordance with Halton Region Police and Tow Policies.
Investigate and identify by‑law infractions; create, open and update electronic investigation files.
Work closely with other municipal departments and Halton Regional Police Service,



Burlington Animal Shelter, Halton Regional Health Department and the Milton Fire Department.
Investigate livestock claims as an appointed investigator.
Issue Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 penalty notices of the Provincial Offences Act.
Gather evidence and obtain necessary documentation for prosecution.
Prepare court files, attend court or tribunal hearings and present evidence regarding violations of the Animal Control, Noise, Clean Yards, Business Licensing and Parking Control By‑laws.
Serve notices stating specific defects to property owners or occupants and advise of remedial measures required to comply with Town legislation.
Issue Part 2 offence notices and administrative penalties; prepare tribunal documentation and present evidence regarding municipal enforcement matters.
Education & Experience Certificate/Diploma in Police Studies/Foundations, Law & Security, Justice & Administration or related field.
Minimum two years of experience in animal control related work.
Experience interpreting by‑laws and provincial legislation pertaining to municipal law enforcement and licensing.
Experience practicing secure animal handling procedures for dangerous or aggressive domestic animals.
Certified Municipal Law Enforcement Officer or ability to obtain Certification within three years.
Valid Ontario Driver’s License Class G with a satisfactory driving record.
Excellent interpersonal, investigative, detailed report writing and organizational skills.
Strong problem‑solving skills and proven ability to resolve disputes in a manner that supports a high level of customer service.
Preferred Qualifications Post‑secondary education in Animal Care or Veterinary Technician.
Training related to wildlife and animals living in their natural habitat.
Experience related to parking enforcement.
Experience handling injured and deceased wildlife.
