Safety Officer — Surrey, BC

Global Rigging & Transport (GRT) Full-Time | Travel to Project Sites Required

About Us

Global Rigging & Transport is a world-renowned international Heavy-Lift and Heavy-Transport company, providing engineering, crane services, technical supervision, and equipment to project sites worldwide. With offices in Virginia (US), British Columbia (Canada), Chile, and Panama, GRT specializes in crane moving, crane modification and repair, crane assembly and dismantling, heavy lift and transport, emergency response, project cargo, load testing, salvage, and custom engineering.

We approach every project with safety and efficiency at the forefront — and we're looking for a Safety Officer to help us keep it that way.

The Role

GRT is seeking a mid-level Safety Officer (3–5 years of industrial safety experience) to join our Surrey, BC team. This role will support safety programs both at our BC office and across active project sites, requiring regular travel — including to marine terminals, ports, and industrial job sites — as our crews execute crane moves, heavy lifts, and rigging operations.

Responsibilities

- Conduct in office safety inspections and audits across active project sites, including marine terminal and port environments
- Develop, implement, and enforce site-specific safety plans in coordination with project managers and field crews
- Deliver safety orientations and toolbox talks to staff, subcontractors, and temporary/union-sourced labour
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and hazards; prepare reports and corrective action plans

- Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and applicable client/port safety requirements (e.g., terminal-specific orientation and certification standards)
- Maintain and track staff safety certifications and orientation expiries
- Support permit-to-work, lockout/tagout, rigging, and lifting safety procedures specific to heavy-lift operations
- Travel to project sites across BC and potentially other regions as project needs require
- Liaise with clients, port authorities, and regulatory bodies on safety matters

Requirements

- 3–5 years of experience in an industrial safety role, ideally in construction, heavy lift/rigging, marine, or port environments
- Working knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and industry safety standards
- Relevant safety certification (e.g., NCSO, CRSP, or equivalent) preferred
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for reporting and delivering training
- Comfortable working on active industrial/marine job sites and traveling regularly to project locations
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to work independently and coordinate across field crews, subcontractors, and management

What We Offer

- Full-time position with a globally established heavy-lift and transport company
- Exposure to high-profile, technically complex projects
- Collaborative team environment with a strong safety-first culture
- Fair wage and benefits (wage to be determined based on experience)

To apply, please submit your resume and relevant certifications.
