Safety Advisor – Construction

Iron Horse Earthworks Inc. is seeking an experienced Safety Advisor to support our civil and earthworks operations on a project in Port Hope, Ontario.

The Safety Advisor will work closely with project management, supervision, field personnel, subcontractors, and the client to provide hands-on safety leadership and ensure work is planned and executed in accordance with company, client, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide day-to-day safety guidance and support to project management, supervisors, and field crews.
- Conduct regular field inspections, safety observations, and hazard assessments.
- Develop, review, and assist with JHAs/JSAs, FLHAs, safe work procedures, and project-specific safety documentation.
- Lead and participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, orientations, and worker training.
- Monitor work activities and provide guidance regarding excavation, heavy equipment, lifting and rigging, confined spaces, fall protection, hot work, and other construction hazards.
- Identify unsafe conditions or practices and work with supervision to implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Participate in incident, near-miss, and hazard investigations, including documenting findings and following up on corrective actions.
- Maintain safety records, inspections, training documentation, and other required project safety files.




- Assist supervision with planning higher-risk work and ensuring required permits, procedures, and controls are in place before work begins.
- Coordinate and communicate with client safety representatives as required.
- Promote a strong, practical safety culture while maintaining positive working relationships with field personnel.

Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Safety Advisor or similar HSE role in construction.
- Experience in civil construction, earthworks, underground utilities, concrete, or heavy construction is strongly preferred.
- Robust knowledge of applicable Ontario construction health and safety requirements.
- NCSO, CRSP, or equivalent safety designation is required
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification.
- Strong understanding of hazard assessments, JHAs/JSAs, incident investigations, inspections, and corrective action processes.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with both field personnel and management.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and safety documentation.
- Experience working on industrial or highly regulated sites is considered an asset.

Position: Safety Advisor – Full-Time / Project-Based

Location: Port Hope, Ontario

Pay: $30.00-$50.00 per hour
