About BLUBC Education Consulting
BLUBC Education Consulting provides academic tutoring, standardized test preparation, university planning, and educational consulting services to students and families. We are committed to helping students strengthen their academic abilities, explore their potential, and prepare confidently for future educational opportunities.
We are currently seeking an experienced SAT English Teacher to teach the Reading and Writing section of the Digital SAT. The ideal candidate will have a well-developed SAT teaching methodology, a strong understanding of the current test format and question types, and an established collection of effective teaching and practice resources.
Classes may be delivered online or in person in Vancouver, depending on student needs and scheduling.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Teach Digital SAT Reading and Writing in one-to-one and small-group settings, typically with 3–6 students
- Assess students’ current abilities and identify specific areas for improvement
- Develop structured course plans based on students’ starting levels, target scores, and preparation timelines
- Teach effective and repeatable strategies for different SAT Reading and Writing question types
- Help students improve reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary in context, rhetorical analysis, time management, and test-taking accuracy
- Select, organize, and adapt high-quality practice questions and teaching materials
- Assign relevant homework after each class and provide timely feedback
- Administer regular assessments and practice tests to monitor student progress
- Maintain accurate lesson notes and student progress records
- Communicate regularly with BLUBC education consultants regarding student performance, learning needs, and recommended next steps
- Respond professionally to feedback from students, parents, and the BLUBC academic team
- Follow BLUBC’s teaching standards, policies, and procedures
Qualifications and Skills
- A minimum of approximately two years of direct SAT English teaching experience is required
- Strong familiarity with the current Digital SAT Reading and Writing format, tested skills, question types, scoring structure,
and Bluebook testing platform
- A proven ability to teach practical test-taking strategies and clearly explain the reasoning behind correct and incorrect answers
- An established and well-organized bank of legally usable SAT teaching resources, practice questions, exercises, homework, and assessment materials
- Experience developing structured course outlines and adapting instruction to different student levels and target scores
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Strong communication, organization, and classroom-management skills
- Professional experience working with high school students
- Ability to provide clear, constructive, and timely feedback
- Legal authorization to work in Canada
Preferred Qualifications
- A demonstrated record of helping students achieve meaningful SAT score improvements or strong test results
- Recent experience teaching the current Digital SAT
- Experience teaching students applying to competitive universities in the United States
- Experience teaching other standardized tests, such as the ACT, TOEFL, or IELTS
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in English, Education, Linguistics, Literature, or a related field
- Experience teaching both online and in person
- Availability during weekday evenings and/or weekends
- Additional language skills, including Mandarin, are considered an asset

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an online interview and may be asked to:
- Deliver a 15–20 minute Digital SAT Reading and Writing demonstration lesson
- Explain their approach to diagnosing student weaknesses and improving SAT scores
- Present a sample course outline, lesson plan, assessment, or selected teaching materials
All applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada. The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check.

- Please provide two or three dates and time windows when you would be available for an online interview. Our interviewers are available Monday through Sunday. Please list your availability in Pacific Time.
- We have two teaching locations: one on the UBC campus and one at 2083 Alma Street in Vancouver West. More than 80% of our classes are delivered in person. Are you able to reliably commute to at least one of these locations for in-person teaching?
- Are you available to teach in person for a consistent block of hours on either Saturday or Sunday?
- Do you have direct experience teaching the current Digital SAT Reading and Writing section, including its question types, test-taking strategies, and Bluebook format?
- Do you have an established and well-organized collection of SAT teaching materials, practice questions, homework exercises, and assessments that you are legally permitted to use?
- Please briefly describe your SAT English teaching experience and provide one or two examples of student score improvement or other strong teaching outcomes. Student names are not required.
- If shortlisted, are you willing to deliver a 15–20 minute Digital SAT Reading and Writing demonstration lesson and present a sample course outline or selected teaching materials?
