The Problem
Most software agencies are slow. They staff up, hide behind project managers, and ship in quarters. The client waits, the budget grows, and the demo keeps moving.
We build differently. CodeShip ships fixed-price platforms in weeks, not quarters. AI-accelerated development, small senior team, no layers between the person building and the person paying. That pace works because of how we build, and it only scales with engineers who can operate this way.
The Role
You run builds end to end. You take a written spec, build against defined acceptance criteria, and present the finished work to the client yourself. No product manager translating requirements. No one breaking your work into tickets. You own the loop: spec to shipped to demo.
The way you build matters as much as what you build. We work AI-native: agentic coding tools are the default workflow, not an assist. You will plan builds, run agents against specs, validate everything before it merges, and keep quality gates green while moving fast.
It starts as a 1–2 month contract. If it works on both sides, it converts to full time. We’d rather prove it than promise it, in both directions.
What You'll Do
You’ll build production platforms for real companies: web apps, APIs, data pipelines, AI-powered systems. You’ll present milestone demos to clients, handle their questions, and own what happens next. When something is ambiguous, you make a call and document it. When something breaks, it’s yours until it isn’t broken.
What You Bring
- Senior full-stack experience: you can go from architecture to UI polish without handoffs. Strong in TypeScript (Next.js, Node, Postgres is home base), comfortable picking up whatever the problem demands
- A real AI-native workflow: you use tools like Claude Code or Cursor daily.
The bar is daily use in shipping real software, not familiarity. You know what you let run autonomously, what you never do, and you validate agent output before it ships
- Client-facing history: you’ve shipped work solo for a client, presented it, and answered for it. You can explain a technical decision to a non-technical person and hold the room
- Self-direction: you’ve built things nobody asked for. You don’t wait for instructions when the path is unclear, you make a plan and communicate it
- You ship. Weeks-long delivery cycles feel normal to you, not reckless
Bonus: you’re an ex-founder, agency or freelance operator, open-source maintainer, or indie hacker. We care about what you’ve shipped and how, not where you studied.
What We Offer
- Real ownership from day one: your builds, your client relationships, your calls
- An AI-native delivery system that’s already working, and a say in making it better
- Direct access to decision-makers, ours and the clients’
- Fast feedback, no bureaucracy, no meetings that should have been messages
- A clear conversion path from contract to full-time
How We Hire
1. Application (20–30 minutes): short written answers and three short videos, so we see how you think and communicate before the interview stage
2. Take-home task (1 hour, on your schedule)
3. Founder call (45 minutes): you walk us through your work, we talk through how we’d work together
4. Contract offer, and we start building
We review every complete application and respond within 5 business days either way.
One honest note: this role has real ambiguity. You’ll make calls without detailed specs and own the outcomes. If that sounds draining, this isn’t the right role. If it sounds like the job you’ve been looking for, we want to talk.
