The Tallcree Tribal

Government is a First Nations band government located in northern Alberta. It is part of the Woodland Cree Nation and includes several reserves with the largest being South Tallcree and North Tallcree. The government is committed to protecting the rights of its members, caring for the land and supporting the well-being of the community. They have a rich cultural heritage and are one of the original signatories to Treaty 8 having signed in 1899. Today, Tallcree Nation continues to uphold their traditions and teachings while engaging in community events and cultural preservation efforts.

ABOUT THE SENIOR FINANCE OFFICER The Senior Finance Officer is a newly created leadership role that reflects the continued growth and evolution of Tallcree Tribal Government. Reporting directly to the Band Manager, the Senior Finance Officer will serve as a trusted financial advisor and strategic partner, providing sound financial leadership, insights, and guidance to support informed decision-making across the organization. The role combines hands-on responsibility for accounting and financial operations with broader oversight of financial planning, reporting, compliance, budgeting, funding management, and process improvement.

The Senior Finance Officer will play a key role in strengthening financial systems, enhancing reporting and accountability, and ensuring the effective stewardship of community resources. Working closely with leadership, program managers, funding partners, auditors, and other stakeholders,



the Senior Finance Officer will help ensure financial sustainability while supporting Tallcree Tribal Government's strategic priorities, programs, services, and long-term vision for its members.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Manage the functional areas of accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, tax compliance, investor relations, and audit information management
- Prepare and oversee the creation of profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and capital budgets to assess financial performance.
- Develop and maintain internal controls, financial policies, and procedures to support compliance, accountability, and effective financial management.
- Monitor cash flow, banking relationships, and liquidity requirements to support operational and strategic needs.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and related financial processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Manage funding agreements, grant reporting, and government funding requirements while ensuring compliance with reporting obligations.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations, financial reporting, and record maintenance.
- Prepare and present financial reports, forecasts, and analyses to the Band Manager, Chief and Council, and other leadership groups as required.
- Direct and coordinate the creation and maintenance of budget programs, working with Directors ensuring adherence to financial goals and governance.




- Conduct short and long-term forecasting to identify growth and profit opportunities
- Supervise and mentor the accounting and finance team, fostering a collaborative environment while managing workflow and meeting deadlines
- Manage grant funding and funding opportunities, ensuring compliance and maximizing financial support for community projects and programs.
- Foster relationships with community members, lending institutions, stakeholders, and the financial community to ensure financial decisions align with Tallcree Tribal Government organizational and community needs.
- Lead the review, selection and implementation of financial technology to improve efficiency in operations and reporting.

REQUIREMENTS

- CPA or equivalent desired
- 5+ years of experience in forecasting and financial reporting
- Previous senior finance experience in a First Nation or Public Sector desired
- Previous experience in creating and custodianship of annual budget process
- Proven leadership and business acumen skills, ability to supervise and motivate teams
- Continuous improvement mindset and strong technology skills (Excel, Software, ERP)
- Commitment to excellence and high standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Valuable judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
- Ability to work with all levels of management with strong collaboration skills
- Strong organizational skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
