Founded in 1994, Breakfast Club of Canada is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing services and funding to school breakfast programs across the country. We work with partners from all sectors to deliver a high-quality national school food program. Together, we create a nurturing environment, where children and youth can access the nourishment, they need to succeed and flourish.

THE POSITION

Reporting to the Co-Founder and Government Relations Director, the successful candidate will play a key role in advancing Breakfast Club of Canada's government relations strategy. The person in this role will build and strengthen relationships with provincial and federal government stakeholders, advocate for the Club's priorities, and help increase awareness and support for school food programs across Ontario. Working collaboratively with internal and external partners, the successful candidate will contribute to the development and execution of government relations initiatives that advance the Club's mission.

They will also support government relations efforts across Canada, helping to foster strategic partnerships and create opportunities that further the Club's impact on children and youth.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

- Proactively develop and execute stakeholder engagement plans to build and strengthen strategic relationships with provincial and federal government decision-makers, political staff, public servants, and key influencers, with a primary focus on Ontario.
- Coordinate and lead outreach efforts by identifying engagement opportunities, requesting meetings, preparing stakeholders, and ensuring timely follow-ups that advance the Club's government relations ambitions.
- Cultivate long-term relationships with government stakeholders by maintaining regular communications, providing relevant information and insights, and positioning the Club as a trusted partner on school food.
- Monitor the political and policy landscape, including government priorities, cabinet and staff changes, legislative developments,



and funding opportunities. Identify emerging risks and opportunities and provide strategic recommendations to inform the Club's advocacy efforts.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of government relations strategies, advocacy plans, and engagement tactics that align with government priorities, including universal school food, local food procurement, cross-sector partnerships, economic development, and cost-sharing models.
- Research, analyze, and prepare strategic briefing materials, position papers, pre-budget submissions, reports, speaking notes, and communications to support senior leadership in government relations and engagement.
- Represent the Club at meetings, public consultations, parliamentary events, conferences, working groups, coalitions, and other stakeholder forums to strengthen the organization's visibility and influence.
- Track stakeholder engagement activities, outcomes, and key performance indicators by maintaining accurate records in the Club's government relations CRM (Borealis) and preparing regular progress updates and reports.
- Ensure compliance with the Club's Government Relations Policy and contribute to the continuous improvement of government relations processes, tools, and best practices.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues across Communications, Partnerships, Programs, and Executive Leadership to ensure a coordinated and strategic approach to government engagement.
- Support broader government relations initiatives across Canada and contribute to special projects and priorities as assigned by the Director, Government Relations.

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS

- University studies in the field of political, social,



public relations related discipline (any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
- 5 to 7 years of relevant experience. with years of relevant experience.
- Speaking and written proficiency in English is required; French is an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of the Ontario and Canadian issues related to school food (an asset)
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario political landscape, parliamentary processes, and the Canadian public affairs environment.
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle, as frequent travel will be required.

WORK CONDITIONS

- Permanent, full-time position.

- Annual salary from $70,000 to $95,000, depending on experience.
