The Senior HVAC/Mechanical Engineer has achieved a high level of technical proficiency in mechanical engineering and is capable of providing technical leadership within Cheme to ensure technical excellence in project execution.
As a Senior HVAC/Mechanical Engineer, you should be a highly creative individual with the ability to develop cutting-edge solutions to our clients' needs, understanding the unique challenges of both process and mechanical design and the importance of the interface between the two disciplines.
The Senior HVAC/Mechanical Engineer will help build and lead a high performing team and are responsible for ensuring successful execution of deliverables, effective utilization of resources, and ongoing growth and development. They would The duties of the successful candidate will consist of a combination of the following tasks:
Senior Mechanical Engineer:
- Leading HVAC/Mechanical design through various phases of design projects ranging from feasibility studies through detailed design efforts.
- The majority of the work will be related to HVAC and Hydronic System design. However, expect to work in industrial piping, plumbing, central utility plants, compressed air systems, steam/condensate systems, and fire protection.
- Leading interactions with clients, other consultants and contractors through various phases of projects.
- Coaching and support of other mechanical engineers/specialists
- Leading development of HVAC / Mechanical design documents including:
- Piping / Airflow and Instrumentation Diagrams
- Zoning, Classification and Pressurization Plans
- HVAC & Mechanical Plans (Ductwork, Piping, Plumbing)
- Datasheets and Specifications
- Coordinating design efforts with other engineers/architects to define mechanical requirements produce coordinated deliverables associated with mechanical engineering projects.
- Developing cost estimates for early stages of the project life cycle.
- Performing field surveys and evaluating condition of existing buildings, equipment and systems.
- Sizing, selecting and specifying mechanical equipment such as Air Handling Units, Fans, Chillers, Cooling Tower, Boilers, Pumps, etc.
- Designing plumbing and building utility piping systems
- Summarizing engineering results in written reports and/or presentations that are cohesive and of the highest quality.
Additional duties of the successful candidate will consist of a combination of the following tasks:
- Management of assigned team members as the team grows
- Serve as primary point of contact with clients
- - Coordination with international design offices on project work
- Technical leadership on assigned projects
- Peer review of engineering work
- Preparation of engineering calculations
- Development of engineering drawings (P&ID;, layouts, 3D modeling)
- Preparation of construction specifications and scope documentation
- Cost estimating
- Development of templates and tools for discipline area
- Development of training materials
- Maintenance of industry knowledge for discipline area
- Training and mentorship of junior staff
- Travel to client sites for site review, troubleshooting, start up, and commissioning
Minimum Required Education:
- Bachelor of Applied Science degree in engineering from a recognized Canadian university
Professional Requirements:
- Current registration with the Professional Engineer’s of Ontario as a licensed Professional Engineer.
Core Competencies:
- Mechanical engineering skills with at least 8-10 years of current relevant work experience.
- Experience in HVAC/Mechanical design within pharmaceuticals and biotechnology industry.
- Experience in creation design drawings utilizing AutoCAD and Revit 3D design software.
- Experience in utilizing building modeling software (HAP, Trane Trace, or equivalent) to perform HVAC Load Design and Energy Simulations.
- Management of projects, systems, staff, clients, money, and business relationships.
- Supervision of team members
- Training and development of junior staff
- Proficiency in written and spoken English with the ability to communicate clearly with clients.
- Adept at dealing with client’s and other people in a professional and courteous manner.
- Knowledge of common business practices and techniques such as quoting, preparation of requirements, marketing and sales.
- Use of Microsoft operating system and Microsoft Office Suite to navigate a server environment and prepare engineering documents.
- Valid driver’s license, and regular access to a reliable personal vehicle.
