About The Hiring Company
Opticca Consulting Inc. is a Canadian technology consulting firm specializing in Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure, enterprise landing zones, cloud migrations, and managed services. We help public sector and enterprise organizations modernize their infrastructure through secure, scalable, and automated cloud platforms built on Microsoft Azure.
Our consultants work on complex cloud transformation projects, implementing Azure environments using Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) best practices and Infrastructure-as-Code automation.
What We Offer
- Opportunity to work on large-scale cloud transformation projects
- Exposure to enterprise Azure architectures
- Collaborative consulting environment
- Competitive compensation
- Flexible hybrid work environment
About The Opportunity Opticca Consulting is seeking a highly experienced Senior OpenShift Virtualization (OCP-V) Engineer to design, implement, migrate, secure, and operate enterprise virtual-machine platforms on Red Hat OpenShift. The role requires a hands-on engineer who possesses strong expertise in OpenShift Container Platform, KubeVirt-based virtualization, Linux, compute, networking, storage, automation, and migration.
The successful candidate will help organizations modernize traditional virtualization estates by running virtual machines and containers on a common, highly available platform while maintaining production-grade performance, resiliency, security, and operational supportability.
You can expect to
- Design production-grade OpenShift Virtualization architectures, including control-plane, infrastructure, and compute-node topology; failure domains; capacity; high availability; and growth planning.
- Install, configure, upgrade, patch, and operate OpenShift Container Platform and the OpenShift Virtualization Operator across supported bare-metal and infrastructure platforms.
- Create and manage virtual machines, virtual machine instances, templates, instance types, preferences, data volumes, persistent volumes, snapshots, cloning, live migration, and node-maintenance workflows.
- Assess existing VMware vSphere, Red Hat Virtualization, OpenStack, and OVA-based workloads; identify dependencies, compatibility constraints, remediation needs, migration risks, and target-state requirements.
- Plan and execute cold, warm, and supported live migrations using Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV), including provider configuration, network and storage mappings, migration plans, validation, cutover, rollback, and post-migration testing.
- Engineer VM connectivity using OVN-Kubernetes, Multus, NetworkAttachmentDefinitions,
NMState, Linux bridges, bonds, VLANs, load balancers, DNS, IP address management, and dedicated migration networks.
- Integrate and optimize enterprise storage through CSI, including block, file, and software-defined storage; define storage classes, access modes, snapshots, cloning, performance, capacity, and failure-domain requirements.
- Implement security controls for VM workloads and platform services, including RBAC, namespace and project design, network policies, secrets, certificates, SELinux, compliance policies, image governance, vulnerability management, and audit logging.
- Establish backup, recovery, and disaster-recovery procedures for VMs and persistent data using supported data-protection technologies, including OADP, CSI snapshots, and storage-platform capabilities.
- Automate platform configuration, VM provisioning, migration, validation, compliance, and day-2 operations using Ansible Automation Platform, GitOps, Terraform, Helm, APIs, YAML, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, capacity management, performance baselines, and operational dashboards for cluster services, nodes, virtual machines, networks, and storage.
- Diagnose complex production incidents involving KubeVirt components, operators, virt-launcher pods, libvirt/QEMU, nodes, scheduling, migration, networking, storage, guest operating systems, and platform dependencies.
- Produce architecture documents, migration runbooks, implementation plans, test and cutover plans, configuration standards, as-built documentation, and knowledge-transfer materials; mentor client and internal teams.
Must haves
Required Qualifications
- Five or more years of Linux, virtualization, or cloud-platform engineering experience, including significant hands-on responsibility for production environments.
- At least three years of practical OpenShift or Kubernetes platform experience, with direct exposure to OpenShift Virtualization, KubeVirt, or an equivalent Kubernetes-native virtualization technology.
- Strong knowledge of supported OpenShift 4.x releases, operators, cluster lifecycle management, Machine Config, oc/kubectl administration, scheduling, resources, quotas, and high-availability design.
- Deep understanding of enterprise virtualization concepts, including CPU and memory allocation, overcommitment, NUMA, huge pages, host devices, live migration, guest tools, templates, snapshots, and VM lifecycle operations.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise networking, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, VLANs, bonds, bridges, load balancing, firewalls, MTU, network segmentation, and troubleshooting packet flows.
- Experience integrating enterprise storage using CSI and working with block, file, snapshots, clones, access modes, multipathing, capacity, performance, and data-protection requirements.
- Experience planning or executing virtualization migrations, including workload discovery, dependency analysis, migration waves, downtime planning, validation, cutover, rollback, and stakeholder coordination.
- Strong RHEL administration and troubleshooting skills, including systemd, networking, storage, SELinux, performance, logs, certificates, and shell scripting.
- Proficiency with Ansible, Git, YAML, APIs, and infrastructure-as-code or GitOps practices.
- Ability to communicate complex technical decisions clearly, create high-quality documentation, and lead discovery workshops, design reviews, and knowledge-transfer sessions.
- Qualified working proficiency in French; English is required for collaboration with clients, vendors, and technical teams outside Quebec.
Preferred Assets
- Red Hat Certified OpenShift Administrator, RHCE, Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Virtualization, or another relevant Red Hat certification.
- Hands-on experience with Migration Toolkit for Virtualization, including migrations from VMware vSphere, Red Hat Virtualization, OpenStack, OVAs, or remote OpenShift Virtualization clusters.
- Experience with OpenShift Data Foundation, Portworx, NetApp, Pure Storage, Dell, IBM Storage, Ceph, or another enterprise storage platform.
- Experience with SR-IOV, GPU or device passthrough, CPU pinning, NUMA-aware scheduling, performance-sensitive workloads, or disconnected environments.
- Experience with Advanced Cluster Management, Advanced Cluster Security, OADP, GitOps, Quay, OpenShift Pipelines, or Ansible Automation Platform.
- Consulting experience in regulated, security-sensitive, mission-critical, or large-scale data-centre environments.
Education and Certification
- College diploma or university degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Relevant Red Hat and industry certifications are valued but do not replace demonstrated hands-on capability.
Nice to haves Success Profile
- A pragmatic, accountable, and client-focused engineer who combines deep platform knowledge with disciplined migration execution.
- The successful candidate anticipates dependencies, communicates risk early, troubleshoots methodically, and leaves the client with a secure, resilient, automated, and operationally supportable virtualization platform.
