Embark on a funded 3.5-year PhD studentship at the University of Manchester focusing on thin-film composite mixed-matrix membranes. This project combines data-driven modeling with experimental validation for efficient gas separation.
This collaborative PhD initiative with SLB targets creative designs for membranes that enhance carbon capture efficiency. Candidates should have or expect a minimum 2.1 honours degree or a master’s in chemical or mechanical engineering. Proficiency in computer programming for partial differential equations is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop a predictive design framework for TFC-MMMs
• Model mechanical-transport behavior under high-pressure conditions
• Validate the digital twin with experimental studies
• Investigate nanoscale morphology and degradation mechanisms
• Complete an internship at SLB for practical insights
Requirements:
• Minimum 2.1 honours degree in relevant science or engineering
• Expertise in programming for partial differential equations
• Experience in gas separation technologies
• Understanding of multiscale modeling techniques
• Ability to collaborate in a research environment
