Qualifications MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree is required.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of three years of directly related experience in the functional configuration, development, modification or maintenance of Banner Student Aid and the UM Awards Management System or equivalent student information system, preferably at the University of Manitoba.
An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge and skill in the following areas is required:
basic goals and objectives of ORES functions
student and academic business processes
complex higher education student information systems design and operation including characteristics and capabilities of information processing
fundamentals of functional systems analysis for financial aid and awards programs, configuration and testing and methods of developing operational process specifications
principles of student systems reporting and design and practices of data conversion
professional standards for key business systems and procedures, and methods pertinent to assigned area including laws, ordinances, codes, and regulations related to student systems information processing
principles of program documentation and training, and business process re-engineering
the interrelationships of campus departments and the basis of faculty and university senate specific policies and practices
Required abilities:
develop expert level knowledge in the Banner Student Aid and the UM Awards Management System
analyse existing manual and computerized operational procedures involving student systems information processing systems and develop improvements
develop and document operational and technical processes, functions, and procedures involving Banner Student Aid and the UM Awards Management System modules and develop appropriate solutions
analyse operational problems involving Banner Student Aid and the UM Awards Management System modules and develop appropriate solutions
learn the characteristics of new systems and update skills to adapt to changing technology
initiate work, and work effectively, both independently and collaboratively on assigned projects to meet established priorities arid project schedules
express concepts clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
interpret and apply applicable rules, laws, and procedures to student systems operations (tax law, Senate decisions, privacy laws, etc.)




work effectively and cooperatively with administrators, staff, end-users, project consultants and vendors
present and lead discussions on Banner Student Aid and the UM Awards Management System functionality as it relates to current operational needs
work confidentially with discretion using tact, patience and courtesy
satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required
Key responsibilities The incumbent's main responsibility is to ensure that the day-to-day operation of the awards management system and Banner Student Aid run smoothly.
Updates current online computer systems and analyses existing systems.
Ensures that the electronic confirmation of enrolment system shared with Manitoba Student Aid, other Canadian Provincial Aid agencies, and the National Student Loan Service Centre runs efficiently to process all student enrolment documentation.
Generates reports for faculties, colleges, and schools for award selection purposes.
Analyze and evaluate existing business functions and processes related to FAA, such as: awards databases
validation tables
donor and applicant records
evaluations
eligibility scoring and ranking processing
electronic grade receipt
applications
web features
government student aid confirmation
assessment
operational reporting

Ensures that the UM Awards Management System works with all aspects of the Aurora Student and Finance modules (Admin Pages and SSB). Must stay current with all updates and changes to Aurora.
Acts as a liaison between end-users and Information Systems Technology (IST) technical analysts and programmers by providing analysis, design, functional configuration, testing and maintenance of the award management system to ensure optimal system performance.
Interacts with academic and administrative units to identify, define and document operational needs and objectives, current operational procedures, problems, input & output requirements, and levels of systems access.
Translates user requirements into specific functional or technical solutions.
Develops specific proposals for modifications to the system/software and where customization development is required, works closely with the technical team by providing advice on Banner Student Aid and the Awards Management System functionality and data flow.
Identifies opportunities for improving business processes and associated information systems and initiates action to implement change.
Tests, trouble shoots and ensures data integrity of all vendor updates and patches to the system prior to release to the production systems; tests all student module patches, fixes,



and updates in the testing database to ensure proper functioning of the repaired/upgraded system and proper integration with remaining student information systems.
Identify, analyse and report Banner Student Aid and Award Management System software defects.
Works closely with necessary government & educational agencies, analysing, evaluating and developing any required existing and/or recent business functions and processes related to the sharing of information.
Evaluates-system data and develops specifications for end-user operational reports or for use in resolving issues:
Develops requirements for new systems and enhancements to existing systems and ensures that the system designs fit the needs of the users.
Is responsible for set up and configuration of all aspects of the assigned functional area in a manner that meets the business needs of each academic term, and for- determining related procedures and operational schedules.
Documents system configuration, coding structures, system processes; business processes and customizations within Banner Student Aid and the UM Awards Management System.
Tracks and documents changes in functional and business practices and writes detailed procedures that can be easily understood by end-users.
Provides end-user training and develops training materials as required.
Provides technical assistance in training, mentoring, and coaching professional and technical staff on matters related to assigned areas.
Generates reports based on requests received from all levels of university (and external) sources.
Maintains a broad up-to-date knowledge of Banner Student Aid and The Awards Management System through individual self-study and research, attendance at seminars, lectures, training sessions and conferences.
Maintains effective and cooperative working relationships with IST staff, government offices, academic/administrative units and vendor consultants.
Develops relationships/contacts with other Banner Student Aid and Award Management System institutions.
Performs related duties as assigned.
