Rocky Mountain School District is now accepting external applications for:

Literacy Helping/ Teacher Mentor – K-4
Temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE)

Effective September 8, 2026, to June 30, 2027.

The Literacy Helping/Mentor Teacher will provide leadership and support to enhance literacy instruction and student achievement across the Rocky Mountain School District. This position will focus on building teacher capacity through coaching, collaboration and professional learning, while supporting the implementation of evidence-based literacy practices aligned with the BC Curriculum. Primarily, the position will focus on supporting the further implementation of the provincial K-12 Literacy Supports Initiative in the district.

The Literacy Helping/Mentor Teacher works collaboratively with Principals, Vice Principals, classroom Teachers, support staff and district staff to promote inclusive, equitable, and culturally responsive literacy learning environments.

Key Responsibilities

Support the development and implementation of district-wide literacy goals and initiatives

Promote research-informed and evidence-based literacy instructional and intervention practices

Align literacy instruction with the Learning Pathways and BC Curriculum, including core competencies and curricular competencies.

Provide classroom-embedded coaching to Teachers through

Co-Planning

Co-Teaching

Classroom observation and feedback

Model effective literacy instruction across grade levels, with a primary focus on K-4

Mentor new and experienced Teachers to strengthen instructional practice

Design and facilitate professional growth opportunities related to foundational literacy instruction

Support schools and teachers in implementing literacy frameworks, resources, and instructional and intervention strategies

Share current research, resources,



and best practices in literacy education

Support the use of literacy screening tools and assessments

Assist schools and teachers in analyzing student evidence to inform instruction and intervention

Contribute to the development of district assessment practices

Work collaboratively with

District Leadership

Learning Support Services

Participating in district initiatives related to literacy and student success

Foster strong skilled relationships and a culture of continuous learning

Promote culturally responsive and inclusive teaching practices

Support the integration of Indigenous perspectives, knowledge, and ways of learning into literacy instruction

Align practices with district equity goals and the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Strong Understanding of:

Literacy development (reading, writing, oral language)

Differentiated evidence-based instruction and inclusive practices

BC Curriculum and assessment practices

Assessment tools such as Acadience

Proven ability to:

Coach and Mentor adult learners

Facilitate professional learning

Build collaborative relationships

Analyze and apply student learning data

Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
