Swift Underground specializes in utility infrastructure construction and is based in Steinbach, Manitoba. We use industry-leading equipment and technologies to construct and install fibre optic cabling and conduit, sewer and water infrastructure, and geothermal ground loops across Western Canada and Ontario.

Position Summary:

The Sewer & Water Pipelayer is a hands-on field role responsible for assisting with the construction and installation of underground sewer and water infrastructure. The Pipelayer will join our existing Sewer & Water crews to assist the Foreman and equipment operators with excavation and trench preparation, pipe installation, connections and fusing, backfilling, site remediation, and other physical tasks.

This role involves working with a variety of hand tools, power tools, heavy construction equipment, pipe, fittings, and other specialized materials while maintaining a solid focus on safety, quality, productivity, and teamwork.

This position will require you to be able to travel for out-of-town projects in Western Canada and Ontario. Tools and equipment are provided.

Essential Job Functions:

- Load, unload, and secure tools, equipment, and materials required for daily construction activities.
- Set up and maintain the work area, including signage, traffic control, and jobsite safety controls in accordance with site requirements and company procedures.
- Prepare trenches for pipe installation, including grading, bedding, shoring/support systems, and other preparation as directed.
- Perform the installation, alignment, and joining of sewer and water pipe, fittings, valves, hydrants, manholes, and other underground infrastructure.
- Assist with testing, inspection, flushing, pressure testing,



and other quality control activities associated with infrastructure installations.
- Assist equipment operators with excavation, trenching, backfilling, and material placement activities.
- Safely enter and work around excavations, trenches, and confined spaces in accordance with applicable legislation, company procedures, and site-specific requirements.
- When appropriately licensed and authorized, operate company vehicles and equipment used on the jobsite to complete daily assignments.
- Complete pre-use inspections and maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in clean, safe working condition.
- Work scheduled shifts, including overtime, based on project timelines and operational needs.
- Ability to travel and work on out-of-town projects.

Position Qualifications:

- Previous experience as a pipelayer or in underground utility construction is considered an asset.
- Ability to work effectively outdoors in variable weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
- Ability to climb ladders and lift and carry 75+lbs.
- Commitment to following all company policies, procedures, and safety practices.
- Able to communicate with customers and co-workers in a professional manner.
- Ability to use a variety of power tools, hand tools, and specialized construction equipment.
- Responsible and safety‑focused operation of company vehicles and equipment.
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license is required. Possession of, or willingness to obtain, a Class 3 license with Air Brakes is considered a strong asset.

Compensation:

Beginning salary of $24-$36/hr based on experience.

Daily per diem and company paid lodgings provided for eligible out-of-town projects (amount and eligibility based on project specifications and company policy).
