Job summary:

THE OPPORTUNITY – Supportive Roommate – High River/Okotoks

We are looking for candidate with a home which includes a couple or family with no individuals under the age of 13. Emphasis on support with mental health, emotional stability, and socialization opportunities to practice and learn independent life skills.

Candidates must include in their cover letter a description of their neighborhood and home along with pictures of the common living areas and the bedroom that would be offered. Candidates that do not provide this information will not be considered

This position requires candidates to provide support in the candidate's home.

Key Responsibilities:

Offer tailored support to a person with a developmental disability by helping them with daily living needs at home and encouraging involvement in community life.

Support individuals with daily personal care and hygiene

Provide comprehensive support to maintain overall health and well-being, including attending medical appointments, assisting with medication administration, coordinating with pharmacies, promoting healthy eating habits and cooking skills, and offering emotional support.

Assist the individual with daily living activities (Consumer has limited mobility) such as meal preparation and support during meals, shopping, cleaning and organizing personal space, and managing laundry tasks.





Guide and assist the consumer in managing their personal affairs, such as banking and

Assist and guide individuals in the development of social skills and meaningful

Communicate and update the team of professionals working with this consumer daily through specific communication channels (emails, phone, and online applications).

Support consumer with their emotional and mental well-

Qualifications:

Diploma and/or Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Community Rehabilitation, Disability Studies, or related social science is required

Minimum of 2 years experience working with persons with developmental disabilities

A Class 5 (no GDL) Driver's license is required

Well-developed and effective communication skills (written and oral), demonstrated critical thinking and a proven ability to identify issues and advocate for client

Medication administration experience

Demonstrates problem solving, caring, compassion and understanding while at the same time aware of professional boundaries

Confidentiality with handling highly sensitive and confidential information
