Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Position Overview
Experience
Previous related experience in a medical setting including counselling and teaching preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
Master’s of Science degree in Genetics or Genetic Counselling from a recognized training program required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
Board eligible/board certified with the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) and/or the Canadian Association of Genetic Counselling (CAGC) required.
Eligible for membership with the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors (CACG) and/or The National Society for Genetic Counselors (NSGC).
Qualifications and Skills
Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
Basic knowledge of genetics and counselling skills is required.
Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated expertise and competence in teaching and counselling.
Demonstrated organization skills.
Commitment to maintaining and evolving current knowledge in area of expertise through reviewing literature and attending continuing education in-services, workshops and conferences, involvement in research projects as well as participating in the training of Medical and Genetic Counselling students.
Ability to work independently but collaboratively with patients, families and healthcare team members.
