Role Description The Structural Steel and Miscellaneous Metals Project Manager is a full-time, in office role based in Ottawa, ON. This position is responsible for managing steel and metals projects from award to completion, including planning schedules, coordinating fabrication, and overseeing installation activities. Day-to-day tasks include liaising with clients, engineers, and site supervisors; reviewing drawings and specifications; tracking project progress; and resolving technical or logistical issues.
The Project
Manager monitors budgets, prepares project documentation, and supports quality control inspections to ensure compliance with design standards and safety requirements. The role also involves expediting materials, coordinating logistics with suppliers and subcontractors,
and providing regular status updates to internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong Project Management skills, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and stakeholder coordination.
- Candidates should possess Expeditor and Expediting skills to ensure timely delivery of materials and critical project components.
- Candidates should possess Inspection skills to support quality assurance, verify dimensions, and confirm compliance with structural and safety standards.
- Candidates should possess Logistics Management skills to coordinate transportation, delivery sequencing, and site material handling.
- Relevant experience in structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects, preferably in commercial or institutional construction.
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, shop details, and specifications; familiarity with steel fabrication processes is an asset.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities, with capacity to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with project management software and standard office applications; knowledge of construction management tools is beneficial.
- Post-secondary education in engineering, construction management, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
