The UPEI Health and Wellness Centre provides inclusive, accessible, and evidence informed health services that support student success, retention, and overall well-being. To advance campus wide health promotion efforts and strengthen student engagement, the Centre is seeking Peer Educators to support peer-led alcohol education and harm reduction initiatives on campus.

This student position plays a key role in delivering alcohol harm reduction programming, increasing student awareness of lower-risk drinking strategies, and promoting informed decision-making through accessible, non-judgmental education. Peer Educators will support campus-wide implementation of the Your Drink, Your Call initiative and contribute to the development and promotion of alcohol-health resources.

Reporting to the Manager and working closely with the Health and Wellness Centre staff, this role supports strategic priorities by:

- Expanding student access to alcohol harm reduction education
- Increasing engagement through peer-to-peer conversations and outreach
- Promoting safer social experiences and a campus culture of wellness, safety, and inclusion

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will support the Health and Wellness Centre through the following activities:

Outreach and Education

- Plan and deliver Your Drink, Your Call outreach events across campus locations, including residence communities, student gathering spaces, and recreation facilities
- Facilitate peer-to-peer conversations about alcohol use, safer drinking practices, and available supports using a non-judgmental, harm reduction approach
- Engage students through interactive activities designed to increase awareness of standard drink sizes, alcohol-related risks, and protective behaviours
- Distribute educational materials and connect students with campus and community resources as appropriate
- Build positive relationships with students, student groups, and campus partners to
- increase participation in programming




- Promote awareness of Health and Wellness Centre services and support resources.
- Support collection of participation data, evaluation surveys, and other program metrics

Content Development and Program Delivery Support

- Assist with the creation of social media content and digital resources that encourage students to reflect on their relationship with alcohol, especially during key periods of elevated risk
- Gather student feedback and provide recommendations to strengthen future content development
- Prepare materials and supplies for outreach activities, including educational resources, and interactive displays
- Coordinate event logistics including signage, setup, delivery, and takedown of events
- Assist staff in identifying opportunities to expand alcohol education efforts across campus

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Must be a current student at UPEI in Nursing, Foods and Nutrition or another related health, science, or human services field
- Demonstrated interest in alcohol harm reduction, health promotion, student engagement, wellness programming, and supporting student well-being.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a genuine interest in engaging and interacting with students
- Ability to approach sensitive topics with professionalism, empathy, and respect.
- Comfortable initiating conversations and facilitating activities in group and event-based settings.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team setting.
- Experience in peer education, student leadership, event planning, health promotion, or volunteer work is considered an asset
- Students with lived experience related to alcohol use, recovery, supporting others, navigating health and wellness challenges, or accessing support services are encouraged to apply
