You will be responsible for guiding and mentoring our in-house engineering team by providing senior-level advice on mechanical system selection, cooling strategies, market trends, specialty consulting, and client engagement.As a Senior Data Center Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in coordinating mechanical activities across large-scale building and data center projects. Your expertise will help ensure smooth execution, high performance, resilience, and compliance, while supporting project teams with technical leadership and proactive problem-solving.Role accountabilities:Support the design and delivery of mechanical systems for data center and mission critical facilitiesProvide technical mechanical engineering input to clients and internal project teamsApply knowledge of industry standards, codes, and best practices relevant to data centers and mission critical environmentsLead in developing mechanical designs including:Cooling plant systemsChilled water systemsDirect expansion (DX)
systemsAir-cooled and water-cooled heat rejection systemsComputer room air handling and cooling systemsLiquid cooling systems and emerging thermal management technologiesVentilation and pressurization strategiesFuel oil and ancillary support systems as applicableBuilding management system (BMS) integration for mechanical systems monitoring and controlEvaluate and guide teams on the pros and cons of various cooling systems, redundancy approaches, turn down ratios, energy efficiency strategies, and operational resiliency and redundancyCoordinate with other engineering disciplines, vendors, contractors, and client stakeholdersParticipate in key design discussions and help communicate mechanical design decisions to clientsContribute to all project phases, including: Pursuit, Concept design, Detailed design, Construction administration, Commissioning, CloseoutSupport the preparation of proposals, particularly the mechanical engineering approach and technical strategyContribute to knowledge sharing, innovation, and continuous improvement within the mechanical engineering teamHelp develop technical documentation, reports, specifications, basis of design documents, and design packagesWork collaboratively with colleagues across multiple offices and global teamsMentor junior staff and support team development where appropriateQualifications & Experience:Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical EngineeringP. Eng Registration in Canada10+ years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering for data centers, mission critical facilities, hyperscale, semiconductor, industrial,
or similarly complex facilities.Experience in the design of:HVAC systems for mission critical environmentsChilled water plantsCooling towers and dry coolersCRAH/CRAC systemsPumping systemsVentilation and exhaust systemsHydronic system layoutsMechanical system controls and monitoringExperience with codes and standards relevant to data centre environments (ASHRAE, CSA, NEC/NFPA, Uptime, TIA942, etc.).Strong communication and coordination skills with multidisciplinary teams and clientsExperience and passion for leadership and mentoringExperience with data center cooling design and resilient system configurationsFamiliarity with redundancy strategies such as N, N+1, 2N, and concurrently maintainable system approachesExperience with energy-effective cooling solutions, sustainability goals, and thermal optimization strategiesConstruction administration and commissioning experience for mission critical projectsWhy Arcadis?We can only achieve our goals when everyone is empowered to be their best.
