Reporting to the Director, SIS & Process Optimization and working with dynamic, innovative, cross‑functional teams, the Business Systems Analyst leads collaborative systems design across the University community. Consultative in nature, the role carefully balances operational needs to system capabilities ensuring positive change adoption, in keeping with the university’s goals articulated in its Academic and Strategic Plan. This work includes documenting cross‑functional processes, analyzing university data, facilitating solution design, determining solution feasibility, drafting project plans, leading areas of project work, testing prototyped solutions, and ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of university records. The role works closely with both business experts and technical specialists requiring the ability to interpret and translate needs across units to advance the university’s goals of delivering an excellent student and employee experience. Summary Of Responsibilities Lead cross‑functional teams in the documentation of current processes including technical dependencies to improve understanding of current challenges Develop expertise in service experiences and software capabilities to increase understanding of identified challenges and assist in root cause analysis Analyze root causes of concerns, ensuring to document newly identified opportunities for future process improvement consideration Consult with technical specialists and business experts to evaluate capabilities against requirements identifying potential solution paths Facilitate solution selection and design ensuring the most appropriate path considering operational and technical constraints Draft initial project designs including scope, schedule, key deliverables, and cross‑functional team assignments Consult with the Director to gain acceptance of the proposed solution and development plan including foreseeable impacts of proposed changes Consult with cross‑functional teams to finalize scope, schedule, and resources while identifying risks and dependencies Develop complex business and technical specifications ensuring selected solutions balance effectiveness with efficiency Develop expertise in software functionality to assist in the analysis, design, setup,
and support of selected solutions throughout a project Design and implement testing scenarios and plans ensuring appropriate quality assurance, integrity, and confidentiality of university records Supervise project related work, liaising with business, technical, and training experts to ensure appropriate prioritization, escalation, and acceptance Create, update, and maintain process documentation and technical dependencies for future reference Enable business experts and service design staff through train‑the‑trainer approaches to prepare solutions for release to the wider community Support areas of expertise during the hand‑off and initial release of new solutions Develop and maintain university‑wide high‑level systems maps to allow the university to target cross‑functional process concerns, identify maintenance risks, and determine impacts of service changes Develop and maintain university‑wide high‑level data maps to allow pre‑emptive identification of reference set adjustment impacts on both technical systems and operational services Support data custodians in the development and maintenance of interactive and responsive reports meant to reduce manual operational efforts and visualize complex data relationships Assist the Director in other related tasks that contribute to the successful operation of enterprise level systems Qualifications University degree in the field of Business Administration, Information Technology, or a related field of study Minimum of four (4) years of practical work experience in continuous process improvement and/or business process re‑engineering Certification through the International Institute of Business Analysis, Project Management Institute, Prosci Change Management, or related career development organization Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning through various mediums, with the inclination to apply new technical skills Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across diverse stakeholder groups Proven experience supporting multiple business areas in system operations, deployment, and support Proven experience with requirements elicitation, use case analysis, technical specification,
and system testing Proven experience coordinating projects with diverse stakeholders, including dependency, risk, and priority identification Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical and administrative concepts to diverse audiences Strong analytical, organizational, problem‑solving, and data analysis skills, with the ability to see the big picture while maintaining attention to detail Strong facilitation, presentation, and training skills Demonstrated familiarity with relational database concepts, basic programming logic, and data modeling Knowledge of design, development, testing, and implementation methodologies and tools Experience using a variety of analysis and visualization tools Experience with project and issue tracking software Ability to manage a high volume of client and vendor demands in a fast‑paced, professional setting Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively as part of a collaborative, team‑based environment Knowledge of university policies and relevant legislation considered an asset Experience with agile project methodologies considered an asset Experience with data analysis and data modeling considered an asset Direct experience with Colleague, Laserfiche, PowerBI, and/or LucidChart considered an asset Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity and experience promoting a respectful work and learning environment for students, staff and faculty Compensation: OPSEU Unit I, Appendix B, Grade B3; $77,914.95 to $102,401.21 per annum. Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, for a total of 35 hours per week. This position is expected to begin June 1, 2026. Mode of Work: Hybrid Model.
