Your Opportunity

In keeping with Alberta Health Services' Mission Statement and Values, and as an integral member of the Environmental Services Team, the Environmental Services staff is responsible for routine cleaning, collection of general waste, and upkeep of the facility as well as all detailed or special cleanings in areas such as operating rooms, pharmacy, etc. Environmental Services staff must follow Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) standards and are responsible for performing other related duties as required. Environmental Services staff daily routines and approaches at work are to produce a clean, safe, comfortable workplace for patients, residents, visitors, and staff. Environmental Services staff must maintain the highest level of confidentiality and be respectful and compassionate in all interactions. The Environmental Services staff participates in the training and orientation of new staff and performs other duties as required. These tasks are to be completed with minimal supervision in a busy and fast-paced environment.

Description

As an Environmental Services staff, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks associated with cleaning and disinfecting clinical and non-clinical healthcare environments within a hospital or facility. Your typical duties may include sweeping, mopping and vacuuming; restocking supplies in bathroom facilities; stripping linen and making beds; operating industrial cleaning equipment for floor maintenance and restoration; thorough washing of ceilings and windows; emptying hazardous waste; and replenishing cleaning supplies and linens.



You will also be responsible for identifying and reporting potential hazards to your Working Leader and you may also provide training or orientation to Environmental or Laundry staff.

Required Qualifications

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Knowledge and operation of computers and smartphones. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and perform repetitive movements for the duration of your shift. Physically capable to lift up to 25 lbs and push and pull up to 50 lbs of force.

Additional Required Qualifications

Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Requires moderate to heavy physical exertion of which may include repetitive and/or long periods of standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, or lifting. Required to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for long periods of time (i.e., Face Mask, Eye Protection, Gloves, Gowns, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Able to work holidays/weekends and a variety of shift times. Previous cleaning experience. Ability to clean in isolation areas (ED, OR, ICU, NICU, etc.). WHMIS certificate.
