Accountable to the Operational Support Manager and working directly with various internal and external stakeholders, this role manages activities to establish and maintain the configuration and design intent of the hull systems and fittings on the ships and manage any changes through their end-of-life and divestment.The successful candidate will leverage their existing knowledge and expertise in hull and marine mechanical systems and equipment to become a subject matter expert and main point of contact for all technical matters associated with the systems assigned thereto. The principal objective is to maximize effectiveness and efficiency, while minimizing the Life Cycle Cost (LCC) associated with the support of their systems.Regulatory Compliance RequirementThis position requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software or technical information controlled under the Canadian Export Control List and/or the US Export Administration Regulations (EAR). All applicants must be eligible or able to obtain authorization for such access.Key Areas of ResponsibilityThe key functions and areas of responsibility for the LCMM – Naval Architecture Specialist include but is not limited to:Performing Life Cycle and Materiel Management functions including but not limited to equipment obsolescence, material compatibility issues, alternate part investigations, maintenance management, and disposal management; Supporting andmanaging activities associated with the design and configuration control of the vessels including conducting functional and physical configuration audits, as well as deviations and waivers documentation; Providing technical advice to enable auxiliary and mechanical equipment and/or systems to be correctly operated or maintained; Monitoring systemsand equipment performance through various reports such as but not limited to Unsatisfactory Condition Reports (UCRs), Pre-installation failures (PIFs) and technical investigations (TIs)



conducted by the customer; Ensuring proper level of spares are maintained throughout the life of the systems and equipment; support the cataloguingprocess; Conducting technical investigations into problems associated with combat systems, equipment and/or software issues, including failure analysis and solution recommendation; Developing andreviewing technical documentation including equipment specifications, installation and maintenance instructions, test and trials agendas, and engineering change documentation and drawings; Analyzing requirements associated with baseline changes to the ships configuration, equipment and software; Liaise with OEMs, Service Providers and ship staff to support the investigation and resolution of defects; Preparing documented work scopes, suitable for the solicitation of quotations from external resources such as OEMs, manufacturers, suppliers, testing facilities or specialist service providers; andPreparingand managing Work Packages and cost estimates for customer approval.Minimum RequirementsMinimum education requirements:3-year technical program diploma (for Technologists) or 2-year technical program diploma (for Technicians) in a marine technical field offered by a recognized technical institute; orCertified as a technologist or technician by a recognized provincial, state, or federal (national) licensing body in a relevant field or certified body; orCertified as one of the following trades of the Canadian Armed Forces:Marine Technician RQ-PO1 or RQ-PO2QL7 Marine EngineerQL 6A or 6B Hull TechnicianPossess a minimum 8 years of demonstrated professional work experience in the naval, marine, or offshore industry within the last 15 years; Extensive knowledge of hull systems and fittingsWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; Familiar with safety standards; Strong communication skills (oral and written); Language: English (Essential)Preferred QualificationsStrong working knowledge in the maintenance, operation, design, troubleshooting and/or repair of a wide range of hull and marine systems, including mooring and anchoring systems, outfittings, marine structure and coatings, propulsion systems, lifesaving equipment, and lifting appliances; Previous experience with the Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard; Previous experience as a Life Cycle Materiel Manager hull and/or other marine systems; Demonstrated project management experience; Familiar with the Department of National Defense (DND) maintenance management and implementation system “DRMIS”; Experience in delivering marine in-service support of operational assets; andFamiliar with certification requirements including but not limited to Classification Society, SOLAS/IMO, IEEE, CSA, Naval Ship Code,



and DND regulations.Physical DemandsPredominantly office work but will be required to occasionally travel to and work in dockyards and onboard Naval shipsMay be required to undertake inspections on Naval ships which may involve bending and twisting, and working aloftSpecial Position RequirementsSchedule: 40 hours per weekTravel: Occasional domestic or international travel may be required in support of the shipsThe reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between Total Target Cash (TTC) $95,000– $105,000 -$130,000 CAD Annual.This reflects how companies in a similar industry and geographic region generally pay for similar jobs.
