Kelly’s customer, a Canadian company, located in Burlington, ON, is looking for a Transportation Supervisor to join their team on a permanent basis. The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations, safety/compliance, efficiency, profit/loss, and strategy of the transportation department. The Transportation Supervisor will achieve/surpass outlined business goals, champion a 'customer first' approach, create a continuous improvement environment and effectively lead, motivate, and develop all employees in their department.
Responsibilities
- Direct activities related to dispatching, routing, and tracking transportation vehicles and customer orders.
- Developing efficient drivers schedules/routes to maximize profits, provide oversight to route planning.
- Plan, organize and manage eth work of subordinate staff/shipments.
- Resolve or escalate any issues that affect productivity for flow.
- Oversee cost control; control spending so it is consistent with approved budgets, capture and present data for continual cost controls and areas of savings.
- Review and approve driver's timecards in ADP payroll software.
- Evaluate transportation vehicles or auxiliary equipment for purchase by considering factors such as fuel economy; identify/select transportation and communication systems technologies to reduce costs or environment impacts.
- Champion a 'customer first' approach; verify and resolve customer complaints.
- Ensure short and long-term customer solutions are determined, vetted, and successfully executed in a timely manner. Also ensure that customer wait times are minimized and that commitments to customers are met.
- Create and maintain open lines of communication with all Branch Managers and executive by keeping them informed of the status and/or issues as required.
- Open and honest communication with team members; also involves working closely with the warehouse team. Serve as contact person for all workers within assigned territories.
- Oversee vehicle management: oversee regular maintenance for vehicles including detailed records of vehicle servicing and inspection, overall safety for vehicles, ensuring fleet is fully operational and cost compliant.
- Oversee vehicle leases, purchases, and sales.
- Ministry of Transportation compliance including registering and licensing all vehicles, and all other related laws and regulations for delivery vehicles.
- Oversee duty and brokerage for cross-border deliveries.
- Ensure driver abstracts are current and identify risks with demerit points and or offences.
- Use Analytics and data to make recommendations on continuous improvement initiatives to improve business operational efficiency; finding ways to cut costs and maximize profit.
- Engage with and influence multiple key internal stakeholders: Internal Managers in operations, marketing, finance, and sales.
- Responsibility for department’s outbound delivery strategy.
- Conduct performance reviews for team members; coach and develop staff; conduct employee training sessions.
- Assist in the recruitment of quality drivers.
- Capture data to monitor and ensure proper Driver behaviour and vehicle use and ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction and equipment longevity
- Ensure annual performance goals are met or exceeded, including on-time deliveries.
- Negotiate, authorize, or monitor fulfillment of contracts with equipment or materials suppliers.
- Responsible for the back lot at the DC.
- Regularly attend Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings; promote safe work activities.
- Performance of other duties from time to time as specified by the Director of Operations and executive.
- Adheres to and enforces Gerrie policies and procedures; implement schedule and policy changes; work with other managers and staff members to formulate and implement policy changes

- Provides leadership to representatives and provides coaching on improved and effective sales techniques in order to provide the best customer service possible.

- Collaborate with Human Resources to interview, hire, train, motivate, reward, discipline, address complaints and resolve employee problems.
- Ensure onboarding programs are effectively completed in required time by all employees newly hired or transitioning into a new role.
- Responsible for employee learning and development providing comprehensive job training, tools, and knowledge to serve our customers, achieve goals and meet company objectives. This includes the required 40 hours per employee training requirements are met.
- Conduct the annual performance evaluation process with each employee and identify training and career path progression in conjunction with Human Resources.
- Ensure good cooperation with and between departments.
- Responsible for employee’s time and attendance, ensuring time is reviewed and approved in accordance with required timelines.
- Determines staffing requirements suitable for properly implementing the plan, including all types of personnel required. Appropriate allocation of sales territories (including branches) to automation group account managers most qualified to implement the program. Monitor the managing of the important accounts. Coordinates staff training.
- Ensure employees understand and adhere to ISO policies and procedures.
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- Diploma in logistics would be an asset.
- Previous experience with Transportation Management Systems is an asset.
- Previous transportation/ fleet management experience is an asset.
- Positive written and verbal communication skills
- Strong leadership qualities
- Analytical mindset and ability to solve problems.
- Quantitative ability, financial acumen
- Attention to detail.
- Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Office 365)
- Able to work in a fast-paced multi-tasking environment.
- Excellent time management skills
