Feature Animator – Expression of Interest – ILM Vancouver

Position Summary
Industrial Light & Magic Vancouver is ramping up production on the animated musical feature “Oh, the Places You'll Go!”, a 2028 theatrical release in collaboration with Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Bad Robot. The film is directed by Jon M. Chu and Jill Culton. As a Feature Animator, you will shape character performances, visual rhythm, and the heart of this whimsical adventure.
Responsibilities
- Bring a diverse cast of stylized characters and whimsical creatures to life, executing clear performance, acting, and musical timing that aligns with the director’s creative vision.
- Comprehend and execute direction from Lead Animator and Animation Supervisor, and at times from Senior Animators.
- Own assigned shots from initial blocking through final animation polish, ensuring performance and stylistic consistency across sequences.
- Participate in determining aesthetic solutions and provide feedback during dailies.
- Maintain or exceed a consistent level of productivity while meeting deadlines and producing high-quality work.
- Perform other tasks related to the creation of computer‑generated animation.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of relevant professional Feature Animation experience and a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in traditional or computer animation.
- Experience working on stylized animation or musical features is highly advantageous.
- Expert knowledge of traditional animation principles, acting, film production, and compositional design.
- Exceptional animator skills as demonstrated by a portfolio, demo reel, and/or references.
- Ability to take on delegated tasks with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organization and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Linux (desired) and expertise in Maya; knowledge of chaining and constraint techniques.
Compensation
The hiring range in Vancouver is C$87,200 to C$111,600 per year based on a 40‑hour work week. The base pay may vary depending on internal equity, geographic region, and experience. A full range of medical, financial, and variable pay or benefits may be offered.
