ACLS and PALS certification required; completion of a Critical Care Nursing Program is an asset Description:This position involves extending employment for existing staff.The registered nurse will work in an ICU with a 7-bed unit.Shifts include days and nights, weekends and holidays on a variable schedule.The number of shifts may vary, with no minimum number required.The RN will replace chronic vacancies and manage leave of absence situations.Patient-nurse ratios will vary depending on patient acuity.Requests for time off accommodations or restrictions may be considered during the selection process.The RN is expected to respond to code blue and code pink situations throughout the facility and manage the code in the absence of a physician.Additionally,



the RN will monitor telemetry for patients in acute care units.Patients who are critical may remain in the ICU until a bed is available in the acute care unit.RNs are responsible for their patient assignments and for monitoring telemetry patients located on medical/surgical units.Holistic care is provided using the nursing process, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.The RN is accountable for coordinating and directing nursing care.Clinical leadership is necessary, especially in complex or unpredictable patient care settings.Competent, evidence-based nursing practice is required.The RN develops, implements, and evaluates the plan of care to achieve desired patient outcomes.Support for the development of students and colleagues is provided by acting as a preceptor and mentor.The RN contributes to the efficient functioning of the unit and coordination of patient care.Documentation processes must be followed as per site requirements.The Specialty RN may be assigned to units with patients needing complex care.As part of a cooperative care team, the Specialty RN coordinates care to achieve patient and family outcomes.Care coordination is a fundamental responsibility of the Specialty RN.Compliance with documentation processes is required.
