Fire Protection Engineer / Designer Manager Location:
Toronto, ON
Salary:
150k-170k (based on Experience)
A well-established and highly respected engineering consulting firm is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer / Designer Manager to join its growing Toronto team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced fire protection professional looking to step into a leadership role with strong career growth, technical autonomy, and exposure to complex, high-profile projects.
The successful candidate will play a key role in leading fire protection design initiatives, mentoring technical staff, and managing projects across commercial, institutional, healthcare, residential, and mixed-use developments. Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design and coordination of fire protection systems including sprinkler, standpipe, fire alarm interface, and life safety systems
Manage projects from concept through construction, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget objectives are achieved
Review drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documents for quality and code compliance
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, designers, and technical staff
Coordinate with architects, mechanical, electrical, structural, and external stakeholders throughout project delivery
Conduct site reviews, inspections,
and field coordination during construction phases
Support business development efforts, client relationships, and proposal preparation as needed
Stay current with applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices
Qualifications:
Degree or diploma in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.) or equivalent is considered a strong asset
5+ years of experience in fire protection consulting/design within the building construction industry
Strong knowledge of NFPA, OBC, NBC, and relevant fire/life safety codes and standards
Proven project management and leadership experience
Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and related design tools is considered an asset
Excellent communication, coordination, and client-facing skills
