If you are looking for a fast-paced work environment with tons of growth potential, this role is for you. ITD is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering team. The successful candidate will have 5-8 years of work experience, be a passionate, well-rounded professional capable of designing, developing, and overseeing the production of metal jigs, fixtures and other critical production assemblies critical to scaling production, reducing inefficiencies and improving product quality. The candidate must have experience working in the manufacturing industry preferable with heavy metals and automotive experience. The ideal candidate will be fully proficient in English and comfortable working with minimal supervision and alongside a team of mechanical design engineers to meet defined program objectives and milestones. Please note this is a fully on site role from Monday to Friday. The Mechanical Design Engineer must be able to: Listen, observe and take queue from ITD’s leadership team regarding aspects of production that require process automation and streamlining. Using SolidWorks, quickly design and engineer jigs, fixture for the rapid fabrication and welding of critical trailer sub-components like coupler plates, front and rear bolsters, g-frame assemblies, roof rollers, de-coilers, jigs and fixture tables for smaller van trailer and chassis parts like front bolsters and rear bumper assemblies. Set up and oversee company owned automated welding machines to robotically weld beams used in the production of intermodal chassis. Where required, swap into designing and engineering within one of our product teams, including van trailers, chassis, reefer trailers and truck bodies.
Utilize Microsoft 365 Business Central to build and complete BOMs. Release engineering and production BOMs to our production team in a timely manner. Work collaboratively on the floor with fabrication and weld teams to bring designs to life. Engage in QA on all of your designs. Conduct FEA analysis on your designs. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; P.Eng. designation or eligibility is an asset. Minimum 8-10 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably within a manufacturing or transportation environment. Proficiency in CAD software (e.G., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for 2D and 3D modeling and drawing creation. Experience with or exposure to ERP systems (e.G., Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central) is an asset. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present design concepts clearly. Experience developing and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs) and design documentation. Solid analytical and problem‑solving skills, with strong attention to detail. Robust understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes. Familiarity with engineering change control processes and product lifecycle management. Ability to interpret and create engineering drawings and technical specifications. Experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams including production, purchasing, and ERP/operations. Work Conditions · Office-based with occasional time on the shop floor for design validation and troubleshooting. · May need to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally. · Frequent use of CAD software and standard office tools; occasional use ofmeasuring/testing equipment. · Must follow all safety protocols; PPE required whenin production areas. The salary for this role is $70,000.00 to $80,000.00.
