Our Client is in the banking and financial services sector and is searching for a Senior Accountant to join their Finance team for a 6 to 8 month contract. The role is hybrid with 3 days in office located at Yonge and Finch and work remote from home 2 days.
About the Role:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for the preparation and analysis of financial information, month-end and year-end close activities, reconciliations, and reporting. The successful candidate will have strong technical accounting skills, experience within banking or financial services environments, and a hands-on approach to managing day-to-day accounting operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and ensure accuracy of financial records.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and management reporting packages.
- Assist with regulatory reporting requirements and compliance with applicable banking regulations.
- Support annual audits and coordinate with external auditors.
- Analyze financial results and investigate variances against budget and forecast.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial models.
- Develop and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Partner with business stakeholders across lending, operations, treasury, and risk functions.
- Support system implementations, process automation initiatives,
and finance transformation projects.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS and internal accounting policies.
Qualifications:
- CPA designation (completed or in progress).
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience in banking, financial services, lending, wealth management, family office, or related financial institutions preferred.
- Public Accounting firm experience a strong asset.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting standards.
- Experience with general ledger systems and ERP platforms.
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial analysis.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
