This posting is for four (4) Deck Hand positions

Under the supervision of the Jakej/Lobster Captain, the Deck Hand, uses vessel equipment and requires an understanding of proper fish handling to successfully offload catches from the vessel without compromising quality. Deckhands perform general maintenance work so that the vessel deck is clean, safe and operational.

DUTIES AND REPSONSIBILITES

-
Preparing traps, buoys, and rope ready prior to fishing season.

Loading traps on board vessels prior to start and at the end of fishing season.

Banding lobsters and baiting traps during fishing.

Making sure the deck of the vessel is clean prior to end of fishing day.

Reports to the captain of the vessel.

Maintain safe work practices at all times.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

- Must be a We’koqma’q Community member.

-
Must have successfully completed Marine Emergency Duties (MED) training.

-
Hold valid Marine First Aid certificate.

-
Prior experience as a deck hand is a solid asset.

-
Prior knowledge of fishing techniques is an asset.
