I'm a man in my 40s with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), hiring an attendant to support my life at home under the independent living (IL) philosophy - not institutional or clinical care. This role has less built-in structure than agency work and suits someone who's organized, disciplined, and detail-oriented. If you learn quickly, communicate clearly, and bring patience and a friendly, easygoing attitude alongside structure and precision, this could be the role for you!
Schedule
7am - 2pm Mon, Wed, Fri
What You'll Be Doing
Personal care (toileting, hygiene, dressing, etc.)
Activities of daily living (meal prep, support with eating, light housekeeping, etc.)
Positioning and transfers, including using a ceiling lift
The Ideal Candidate
Is comfortable providing intimate personal care for a male client
Clearly understands and follows verbal instructions and communicates clearly in return
Learns routines quickly and retains detail across many small preferences with minimal prompting
Understands the importance of punctuality and dependability
Has experience with self-directed attendant services and/or the IL philosophy
Requirements
No PSW certificate required – training will be provided
Vulnerable sector police check required (cost reimbursed)
First Aid and liability insurance required (cost reimbursed)
