Controls Engineer – Full‑Time, Prince George, BC, Operations. Reporting to VP – Engineering and Head of Operations.

IREN is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider delivering large‑scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference. The company’s platform is supported by a portfolio of renewable‑rich grid‑connected land and power in North America, Europe and the Asia‑Pacific.

The Controls Engineer will lead the design, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of automation and controls systems for air or liquid‑cooled high‑performance computing data centers, working closely with mechanical and electrical engineers to ensure integrated and productive operation.

Job Responsibilities

Act as first point of contact for all matters related to project development of data‑center controls and automation.

Understand mechanical and electrical systems in data centers, develop a coherent controls philosophy and ensure seamless integration.

Lead or participate in design, construction or commissioning efforts as required, acting as key contact for the controls discipline.

Use platforms and tools for controls of mission‑critical facilities, including DCIM solutions for energy and alarm management.

Work with mechanical and electrical engineers to integrate new equipment and changes into control designs and enterprise monitoring platforms.

Stay current with new technologies in controls and automation to keep the company at the leading edge of data‑center design and operation.

Coach and train staff on theory, design and use of control systems and tools.





Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a technical engineering discipline with at least five years of experience in controls and automation in a heavy‑industrial or mission‑critical setting.

Sound knowledge of electrical and mechanical cooling systems, their operation, typical field devices, sensors, actuators, signal types and wiring methods for control and monitoring.

Strong understanding of controls frameworks and tools – mapping mechanical/electrical inputs and outputs, PLCs, SCADA systems, system interconnection and communication protocols.

Knowledge of control theory (e.g., PID loops, ON/OFF with hysteresis, scaled inputs).

Knowledge of industrial networks and communication protocols used in them.

Excellent abstract thinking, analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences, from junior staff to senior leadership.

Self‑driven with attention to detail and ability to execute high‑quality work with limited direction.

Ability to handle uncertainty and limited resources or information.

Compensation

Expected base salary $110–125 K annually CAD.

Actual compensation determined by experience,



qualifications and regional market data.

May include annual incentive bonus and equity (long‑term incentive).
