What We Do Since , The Alex has been a community-based, not-for-profit organization providing integrated primary health care, community support services, and housing-focused programs to individuals and families who experience barriers to accessing traditional health, housing, and social service systems.

Services are grounded in principles of health equity, low-barrier access, trauma-informed practice, cultural safety, harm reduction, and person-centered care.

Reporting to the Housing and Support Logistics Lead, the Housing Support Team Member supports in the areas of moving, housing unit cleanup/restoration, housing unit remediation, and equipment maintenance.

The Housing Support Team Member responds to water, fire and smoke damage, mold, biohazards, vandalism, pests and other disaster events.

This is a full-time , contract term position until December 31, , with the possibility of extension.

What You Will Do Moving Assist in completing moves with high degree of landlord/client satisfaction.

Assemble, pack and secure household goods for safe transportation.

Organize, stock, and restock necessary supplies for packaging and cleaning.

Perform general housekeeping duties as required.

General Labor Demolition; debris removal.

Complete

Bio-hazards clean-up and removal (training provided).

Perform light construction tasks.

Decontaminate equipment or sites to remove bio-hazardous or toxic substances Equipment Maintenance Complete basic vehicle maintenance inspections and cleaning.

Report any equipment defects for preventive maintenance.

People Interaction Assist clients with basic housing tasks.

Collaborate and work closely with employees in other programs.

Work well with the team under minor supervision in a fast-paced environment.

Attend daily/weekly team meetings to contribute to finding housing-focused solutions.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

What You Bring Understanding of the Residential Tenancy Act (RTA), Residential Tenancy Dispute Resolution Services (RTDRS).





At least one year experience in the Homeless Service Sector is preferred.

Experience working with vulnerable populations with significant mental health and substance use issues.

Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office Strong communication skills. WHIMIS Certification required.

Must be physically fit, agile, coordinated, and capable of lifting/carrying up to 75 lbs.

Non-judgmental, patient, friendly, and professional.

Ability to use GPS and navigate throughout the city.

Class 5 drivers license and a clean 3-year drivers abstract are required.

Minimum of 21 years of age and three years of driving experience is required to drive an Alex fleet vehicle.

First Aid (Basic or Intermediate) Level C CPR & AED within 30 days of hire date; certification must be valid for a minimum of 6 months upon hire. A satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal record clearance check is required.

Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action is preferred.

Work Environment and Hours This role involves working from The Alex Community Health Centre: 2 Ave SE, Calgary, AB, and individual homes in the community. 1.0 FTE (37.5 hrs/week).

Standard hours are 8:30 am 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday; flexibility in crisis situations is required.

Prolonged periods of standing, walking and climbing stairs.

Requires frequent action involving bending, reaching above shoulder height, kneeling, climbing & carrying items (up to 50 lbs) up/down stairs and ladders.

Staff may be asked to work in environments with the potential presence of bodily fluids, feces, mold, pests and drug paraphernalia (appropriate PPE provided).

Frequent time outside in all weather conditions.

Frequent driving as part of work duties.

Candidates must show proof of a class 5 driver''s license and a clean 3-year drivers abstract.

Mileage will be reimbursed in alignment with the CRA guidelines.

Driving a fleet vehicle at The Alex also requires that staff are at least 21 years of age with a minimum of three years driving experience.
