We have an opening for a security guard to join our professional in-house security team based at Nova Centre in downtown Halifax. Nova Centre is a 1-million-square-footmixed development includes: retail space, a convention centre, commercial space, a hotel, restaurants and a 2 level parkade.
Responsibilities Include Provide exceptional customer service to tenants and members of the public. Welcome them to the building and answer general inquiries (e.g., providing directions, etc.);
Provide a visible presence on the premises that enforces safety and security – particularly during high traffic times of the day;
Conduct regular foot patrols of the premise – identity and investigate any suspicious behaviour, threats and irregular activity;
Monitor our video surveillance system CCTV– identify and investigate any suspicious behaviour, threats and irregular activity;
Respond to emergency and security situations including power outages, fire alarms, physical disturbances, etc. and provide proper response (police, fire, ambulance). Provide an Incident Report of the incident;
Prevent unauthorized entry and politely direct disruptive individuals to leave the premises;




Write clear and comprehensive reports utilizing our creative electronic reporting software;
Monitor parkade to ensure traffic flowing in and out smoothly, deal with any issues as they arise;
Control Access to the property, this may include escorting contractors;
Provide specialized security services and sustain effective relationships with key stakeholders;
Act as ambassador of the Company – portray a positive, professional image as the face of the Company;
You will also be responsible for ensuring that policies and procedures are adhered to and enforced;
Requirements Education & Experience High school diploma;
Previous experience working in a security position is an asset but not required.
Relevant post-secondary education (corrections; police foundations, etc.) would be an asset.
Skills And Abilities Strong interpersonal skills – ability to develop relationships with tenants and members of the public and portray and positive Company image;
Attentive, aware of surroundings and robust attention to detail. Ability to discern when things are not as they should be;
Dependable and punctual; a team player;
Ability to utilize technology and computer software;
Ability to solve problems, make decisions and respond to emergencies under pressure;
Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, including report writing.
Discretion when handling confidential and private information;
Ability, to stand and walk (indoors and outdoors) for extended periods of time;
Criminal background check required;
