Job Description 6 Month Contract With A local Authority Job Purpose
To support improved outcomes for secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, behaviour that challenges, and those at risk of suspension or permanent exclusion. The role works collaboratively with schools, families, and multi-agency partners to strengthen inclusive practice, build school capacity, and deliver early intervention through outreach support and the Experts at Hand model, ensuring pupils receive the right support at the right time.
Key Responsibilities Provide SEMH and behaviour outreach support to mainstream secondary schools, promoting early intervention and inclusive practice.
Support schools in developing effective behaviour, SEMH, and inclusion strategies that improve outcomes for vulnerable pupils.
Coordinate and deliver the Experts at Hand model by supporting schools to access specialist advice, implement practical strategies, and build long-term capacity.
Manage a caseload of pupils with SEMH needs or behavioural challenges, supporting reintegration and reducing the risk of suspension or permanent exclusion.
Work collaboratively with education, health, social care, Educational Psychology, Early Help, Alternative Provision, and other partners to deliver coordinated support.
Analyse attendance, behaviour, suspension, exclusion, and service performance data to identify trends and inform targeted interventions.
Design and deliver training, coaching, and professional development for teachers, school leaders, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and inclusion leads.
Support schools to review behaviour, SEMH, and inclusion policies using evidence-informed approaches and coaching.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with schools,



facilitating school-to-school collaboration and sharing of best practice.
Support Fair Access Panels, Inclusion Panels, and reintegration planning where required.
Contribute to the development of strategic plans relating to SEND, inclusion, behaviour, and alternative provision.
Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusive practice across all aspects of service delivery.
Contribute to the continuous development and improvement of the SEMH Outreach Service.
Requirements Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.
Significant secondary teaching experience, with a strong understanding of SEMH, behaviour, and inclusion.
Qualified SENCO, senior leadership experience with responsibility for inclusion/SEMH, or equivalent experience leading whole-school inclusion and behaviour strategies.
Detailed knowledge of SEND legislation, exclusions, suspensions, alternative provision, safeguarding, and inclusion policy.
Strong understanding of evidence-based SEMH interventions, relational practice, and early intervention approaches.
Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs and those at risk of exclusion.
Experience designing and delivering training, coaching, and career development for education professionals.
Experience analysing behaviour, attendance, and exclusion data to inform service improvement.
Experience working collaboratively with multi-agency partners, schools, families, and local authority services.
Strong organisational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to manage a varied caseload while balancing strategic, operational, and school-facing responsibilities.

Additional Information Location: Lambeth – outreach across secondary schools and educational settings.
