In this position, you will work as part of the Center City team during the summer season and keep our active pathways and infrastructure explicit throughout the winter. Join us in delivering high-quality work that directly impacts the daily lives of Edmontonians!In the summer months, as part of the Horticulture team you will be involved in delivering and maintaining planters, small scale renovations such as shrub replacement and shrub bed improvements as well as watering annual flowers and new plantings. In the winter months, your skills will shift to support critical snow and ice management tasks. If you enjoy teamwork, dynamic physical work, and making a visible difference in our city, we encourage you to apply!What will you do?Work as a team to coordinate on site requirementsPerform snow and ice removal using both hand tools and equipment such as, but not limited to, Toolcats, MTs, and John Deere 1500 series tractorsSpread mulch on sites using both manual tools and equipmentPerform equipment servicing and maintenance of equipmentOperate a chainsaw to rejuvenate prune shrubs, participate in pruning activitiesPlant annuals, weed annual beds manually and with hand toolsMaintain Shrub beds with reciprocatorDrive trucks and pull trailersComplete simple work records such as Vehicle Pre-Trip Inspections, daily logs and FLHAsPerform other related duties including redeployment to encampments, sanitation,
horticulture or other areas as requiredQualifications:Completion of the tenth (10th) school gradeOne (1) years of Horticulture and/or Snow and Ice experienceAsset:Experience operating equipment and Internal certification on Toolcat, chainsaw and chipper operationSkills required for success:Equipment operation skills and equipment maintenance knowledge for various types of vehicles and machineryKnowledge of safety practices and proceduresAbility to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructionsDemonstrate service excellence, embracing diversity and promoting inclusivenessExemplary customer service skills when interacting with the publicAlignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies (https://bit.ly/4brRrXm)Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusionConditions of Employment:Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent).
