Housing Inspector
Summary
Under the supervision of the WUT Housing Manager, the Housing Inspector (HI) performs a central role in the coordination and planning of building inspections on new construction and home repair projects. The HI collaborates with staff to meet building code requirements, make recommendations to execute projects. The HI reviews and ensures all relevant project specifications and scope of work are Build Code compliant. Adheres to WUT financial and personnel policies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES:

Examine plans, drawings, and site layouts for new buildings, building renovations and other proposed structures. to ensure compliance with OBC and NBC.

Inspect construction of buildings, for conformance to drawings and specifications.

Inspect structure wood framework, concrete forms, reinforcing steel mesh and rods, concrete or pre-stressed concrete to ensure quality standards and to verify conformance to specifications.

Inspect construction of sewer systems and pipelines, review Environmental Health Officer reports.

Plan, design, develop, implement, and evaluate workplace activities to ensure that workers comply with WUT policies and government safety regulations.

Reviews all pertinent documents including property plans, technical drawings,



and project specifications.

Ensures the timely completion of reports, records, and other documentation.

Maintain an effective filing system, both digital and manual.

Collaborate with construction support staff to book and coordinate, building code inspection schedule, provide updates and interpretation of building codes to construction staff when required.

Continually seeks, analyses and recommends means to improve the economic position of WUT.

The responsibilities within this position are flexible and may be adjusted according to community and organizational needs and priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Related diploma or degree in trade or technical program, a combination of experience and administration background, would be considered.

Building Code Identifier Number required.

Knowledge of relevant technical and non-technical documents.

Exceptional quantitative skills, experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.

Valid Class “G” Driver’s Licence and access to reliable transportation.

Closing Date: August 14, 2026 Salary: $83 851, Plus benefits/Stat holidays/Band holidays
