About Pacific Tutorials

At Pacific Tutorials, we believe strong mathematics learning is about more than getting the correct answer. Students need to understand why a method works, how mathematical ideas connect, and how to approach problems independently.

Our tutoring is primarily one-on-one and personalized. We work with passion, preparation, and purpose, and we expect our tutors to bring the same commitment to every student they teach.

We are looking for a passionate Grades 6–8 Math Tutor who can strengthen students' mathematical foundations, build confidence, and prepare them for the transition into higher-level mathematics.

The Tutor We Are Looking For

We are not looking for someone who shows students how to complete their homework. We want a tutor who can help students understand mathematics.

At Pacific Tutorials, an excellent Grades 6–8 Math Tutor:

- Builds conceptual understanding before shortcuts and memorized procedures.
- Encourages students to explain how and why they reached an answer.
- Identifies foundational gaps that may be affecting current learning.
- Uses diagrams, models, examples, patterns, and real-life applications to make abstract concepts understandable.
- Develops problem-solving and mathematical reasoning alongside computation skills.
- Adapts explanations and difficulty levels to the individual student.
- Encourages students to try, question, investigate, and learn from mistakes.
- Comes prepared and takes ownership of the quality of each session.
- Helps students gradually become more confident and independent learners.

We want students to move from “Tell me what to do” to “I know how to think through this.”

What You’ll Do

- Provide personalized one-on-one online Math tutoring for students in Grades 6–8.
- Support students with number sense, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, proportional reasoning, algebraic thinking,

- Identify learning gaps and adapt instruction to each student's needs and academic goals.
- Use multiple strategies to explain concepts when a student is struggling.
- Help students communicate and justify their mathematical thinking.
- Support schoolwork, assessments, enrichment, and preparation for upcoming mathematics courses.
- Prepare appropriately for sessions and track relevant student progress.
- Maintain professional, reliable, and consistent communication.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from teachers, OCT-certified educators, teacher candidates, university students, graduates, and professionals with strong mathematics knowledge and an ability to work effectively with younger learners.

- Strong understanding of Grades 6–8 Mathematics and the foundational concepts students need before entering high school.
- Ability to explain mathematical concepts clearly, patiently, and in multiple ways.
- Strong numerical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build rapport with middle-school students while maintaining an engaging and academically focused setting.
