Cristom Vineyards is a family-owned winery in the Eola-Amity Hills of the Willamette Valley, producing site-focused Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Gamay noir and Syrah in a biodynamic, environmentally aware and sustainable manner.
We’re currently seeking one qualified individual to join our team in 2025 as a Vintage Assistant Winemaker. This would be a long-term, in-depth internship that would cover all aspects of the cellar. The role would commence in late-March / early-April and continue through harvest into a post-harvest period.
The end-date could be as late as early-December. In addition to experiencing all elements of cellar work, the Vintage Assistant Winemaker would also engage in extensive animal husbandry activities with our estate flock of sheep, as well as organic vegetable farming and biodynamic viticulture.
Responsibilities
- Regular topping of wine barrels
- Fulfilling addition and fining workorders
- Racking, washing, steaming and sousing of barrels
- Cleaning and sanitizing tanks and equipment
- Maintaining winery equipment, hoses and fittings
- Maintaining winery infrastructure or organization
- Filtering wine
- Participating in bottling activities
- Collecting wine samples for blending and analysis
- Gathering data for crop projections
- Attending to and managing estate flock of sheep
- Regular biodynamic farming activities
- Organic vegetable farming
- Harvest activities
1. Receiving, organizing and processing fruit
2. Managing pressing logistics
3. Barreling down juice and wine
4. Managing red wine fermentations (punchdowns and pumpovers)
5. Digging out red fermenters
6. Steaming and prepping barrels
7. Forklifting of barrels and fruit
8. Generating workorders in InnoVint
9. Recording winemaking activities in InnoVint
Minimum Qualifications
- Skilled forklifting abilities
- Basic understanding of winemaking
- Wine production experience
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds and work on their feet for 12+ hours
