Accounting & Finance Manager

About the Role

First Contact Mechanical Ltd. is a growing mechanical contracting company serving Metro Vancouver.

We are seeking an ambitious Accounting & Finance Manager to take ownership of our day-to-day accounting function while helping strengthen the financial systems, reporting, and processes that support our continued growth.

This position is ideal for an accounting professional who has built strong technical fundamentals and is ready for greater responsibility, broader business exposure, and the opportunity to develop into a senior financial leader.

You will work closely with company leadership, our external accountant, and professional advisors while developing a strong understanding of the financial and operational drivers of a construction business.

This is not simply a bookkeeping position. We are looking for someone who wants to understand the business behind the numbers.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Administration

- Manage full-cycle bookkeeping and accounting
- Maintain accurate financial records in QuickBooks Online
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Coordinate and process payroll
- Complete bank and credit-card reconciliations
- Maintain general ledger accuracy
- Prepare month-end reconciliations and reporting
- Assist with year-end preparation
- Maintain organized supporting financial documentation
- Monitor receivables and assist with collection processes

Government & Compliance
- Manage GST/PST accounting and remittances
- Coordinate payroll remittances and related requirements
- Communicate with CRA on authorized company matters
- Track government correspondence, deadlines, and required responses
- Maintain supporting records for government filings
- Assist with WorkSafeBC and other required financial reporting
- Coordinate documentation required for external accounting and tax preparation

External Accountant & Advisor Coordination
- Act as a primary internal accounting contact for our external accountant
- Prepare reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation
- Coordinate information requests
- Investigate accounting discrepancies
- Follow outstanding accounting matters through to resolution
- Provide accurate financial information to company leadership and professional advisors

Construction & Job Costing




- Support project and job-cost accounting
- Assist with progress billing and holdback tracking
- Review job costs for completeness and accuracy
- Support labour and material cost reconciliation
- Assist management with project financial reporting
- Help improve visibility into project profitability and financial performance

Financial Reporting & Analysis As the position develops, responsibilities will expand into:
- Management reporting
- Cash-flow reporting
- Budgeting
- Forecasting
- Financial dashboards
- Variance analysis
- Project profitability analysis
- KPI development
- Financial planning
- Decision-support reporting for company leadership

Systems & Process Improvement
- Help improve accounting workflows and internal controls
- Develop accounting procedures and documentation
- Support continued development of our QuickBooks Online and Simpro environment
- Improve the flow of financial information between operations and accounting
- Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement
- Help establish scalable financial processes as the company grows

Qualifications

Preferred

- 3–7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience
- Degree or diploma in accounting, finance, business, or a related discipline
- Strong QuickBooks Online experience
- Canadian payroll experience
- Experience with AP, AR, reconciliations,



and general ledger accounting
- Experience preparing month-end accounting information
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Experience communicating with CRA

Strong Assets
- CPA designation or active CPA pathway
- Construction or trades accounting experience
- Job-cost accounting experience
- Progress billing and holdback experience
- Experience with Simpro or another ERP/field-service platform
- Financial analysis and forecasting experience
- Experience improving accounting processes or internal controls

Construction experience is an asset, but we are equally interested in candidates with strong accounting fundamentals and the ability to learn quickly.

Work Environment

First Contact Mechanical operates in a primarily hybrid/remote environment with projects and employees throughout Metro Vancouver.

The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently, communicating consistently through Microsoft 365 and Teams, and attending occasional in-person meetings throughout Metro Vancouver.

Compensation

$70,000–$95,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated capabilities.
