Future Financial Leader at Red Deer Carpet One Floor & Home
After 25 years of dedicated service, our Accountant is retiring. This role will step into the day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping function of the business, while also leading our Financial and Administrative team.
At Carpet One, our purpose is simple: To enrich the lives of people—our team, our customers, and our community—by enhancing the spaces where they live, work, shop, and play.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in getting the details right—but is equally motivated to understand what the numbers mean and where the business can improve.
The Role
This is a hands-on accounting role with team leadership responsibility. You will take ownership of the core accounting function, coordinate a small Financial/Admin team, and gradually expand your impact into reporting, analysis, and planning.
What You'll Do
Core Accounting (Primary Responsibility)
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records
- Complete month-end and year-end processes
- Manage general ledger, reconciliations, and reporting
- Ensure financial systems are clean, organized, and reliable
Team Leadership (Financial and Admin)
- Lead and coordinate a small financial team
- Ensure workflows are clear, consistent, and followed
- Support accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement
HR & Administrative Oversight
- Administer employee benefits and group plans
- Coordinate onboarding and exiting processes
- Maintain employee records and documentation
- Support core HR processes in partnership with leadership
Reporting and Insight
- Prepare and improve internal reporting
- Track and refine key performance indicators
- Analyze results and identify trends, risks, and opportunities
- Connect financial results to operational decisions
Planning & Improvement
- Support budgeting and forecasting
- Identify inefficiencies and reduce errors
- Improve systems, workflows, and financial visibility across the business
Your Team & Environment You will lead a tight team (who take really good care of the office houseplants):
- Accounts Receivable
- Accounts Payable
- Payroll
- Administrative support
- External CPA support for year-end, tax, and valuations
You will be the primary internal owner of the financial function, requiring both attention to detail and the ability to step back and see the bigger picture.
Who You Are
You are dependable, organized, and motivated to grow beyond pure bookkeeping.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- Experience in bookkeeping or accounting
- Must love chocolate
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through
- Comfortable taking ownership and leading a small team
You take pride in doing things right—but you’re also curious about how things could be done better and how the business can improve.
What Matters Here
Our values guide how we work every day:
- Teachable – You are always learning, open to feedback,
and actively looking for better ways to do things.

- Grateful – You bring a positive perspective, recognize others, and appreciate the opportunity in the work.
- Engaged – You participate fully, take pride in your work, and contribute to the team around you.
- Resilient – You stay steady through challenges, adapt, and follow through.
