Advanced Server & Network Engineer

Location: Remote, Greater Toronto Area

Department: IT Services / Infrastructure

Reports To: Service Manager

We’re looking for an Advanced Server & Network Engineer to join our growing technical team — someone who thrives in complex environments, loves solving challenges, and can lead high-impact infrastructure projects with confidence.

Position Overview

As an Advanced Server & Network Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting secure, high-availability network and server infrastructures across multiple client environments. You’ll play a key role in system migrations, virtualization, disaster recovery, and advanced troubleshooting for both on-premises and cloud-based systems.

Key Responsibilities

Design, deploy, and maintain Windows Server and Active Directory environments (including GPO, DNS, DHCP, and File Services).

Configure and manage virtualization platforms (VMware ESXi, Hyper-V, Citrix, RDS).

Implement and support Microsoft 365 / Azure AD environments, including hybrid identity and Exchange Online.

Administer and secure network devices: firewalls (Cisco, Fortinet, Meraki), switches, VLANs, VPNs, and wireless systems.

Monitor and troubleshoot complex network performance and security issues.

Manage server backups, replication, and disaster recovery strategies (Datto, Veeam, etc.).





Support and maintain RDS / terminal servers and remote access infrastructure.

Lead client migrations, cutovers, and infrastructure upgrade projects.

Collaborate with service desk and project teams to ensure smooth issue escalation and resolution.

Document environments, changes, and standard operating procedures in detail.

Required Qualifications

5+ years of hands-on experience in server and network engineering roles.

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Server (2016/2019/2022), Azure AD, and Microsoft 365 administration.

Deep understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, VPNs, firewalls).

Experience with VMware or Hyper-V virtualization technologies.

Proficiency with PowerShell scripting and automation.

Familiarity with backup, replication, and monitoring solutions (Datto, Veeam, PRTG, SolarWinds, etc.).

Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities under minimal supervision.

Preferred Assets

Certifications such as MCSA / MCSE, CCNA / CCNP, Fortinet NSE, or CompTIA Network+/Security+.

Experience with ConnectWise Automate/Manage or similar RMM/PSA platforms.

Knowledge of cloud networking (Azure Virtual Networks, SD-WAN).

Familiarity with security best practices and compliance standards.
