Overview The Birchmount Bluffs Neighborhood Centre (BBNC) is a charitable, multi-service neighbourhood-based organization that offers a range of recreation, fitness, social and learning programs to all members of the community. BBNC is seeking a caring, energetic, and responsible After School Program Leader to join our team and support the daily operation and delivery of our after-school programming.The After School Program Leader will help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children after school. The successful candidate will work as part of the program team to lead activities, support daily routines, encourage positive relationships, and ensure that participants have a meaningful and enjoyable experience at BBNC.

Key Responsibilities

- Support the daily delivery of BBNC’s After School Program in accordance with established program plans, schedules, policies, and procedures.
- Lead and participate in a variety of age-appropriate activities, including arts and crafts, games, sports and movement, STEM activities, creative activities, group activities, and recreational programming.
- Assist with daily routines such as attendance, snack time, transitions, cleanup, and preparation of program spaces.
- Prepare program materials and activity areas before programs begin and ensure spaces are clean, organized, and ready for participants.
- Encourage children to participate, explore new interests, develop skills,



and build positive relationships with their peers.
- Promote an environment that is respectful, inclusive, welcoming, and supportive of children with different abilities, interests, and backgrounds.
- Establish positive relationships with participants and serve as a positive role model.
- Provide guidance and support to children when challenges or conflicts arise and use appropriate strategies to encourage positive behaviour.
- Follow BBNC procedures when responding to behavioural concerns, safety concerns, accidents, incidents, or other situations requiring staff attention.
- Communicate concerns regarding participants, behaviour, attendance, safety, or program operations to the Program Coordinator or designated supervisor.
- Support children who may require additional assistance or accommodations during program activities and daily routines.
- Maintain appropriate supervision of participants at all times and follow BBNC’s child safety and supervision procedures.
- Assist with sign-in/sign-out procedures and ensure participant attendance is accurately recorded.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with parents, guardians, staff, volunteers, instructors, and other BBNC team members.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, orientations, workshops, and program planning meetings as required.
- Assist with program evaluations, participant feedback, attendance tracking, and other program documentation.
- Assist with setting up and taking down program areas, equipment,



and supplies.
- Ensure BBNC equipment and materials are used appropriately and report damaged, missing, or unsafe equipment to the supervisor.
- Follow all BBNC policies and procedures, health and safety requirements, emergency procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with children, families, staff, and community members.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator or supervisor.

Qualifications and Requirements
- Previous experience working with children in an after-school, recreation, camp, childcare, education, or community program is considered an asset.
- Experience leading children’s activities, recreation programs, camps, or group activities is considered an asset.
- Enjoys working with children and demonstrates patience, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with children from diverse backgrounds and with different abilities and needs.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow schedules, routines, and program plans.
- Ability to respond calmly and appropriately to challenging situations.
- Reliable, punctual, responsible, and qualified.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification, or willingness to obtain certification within the required timeframe.
- HIGH FIVE – Principles of Healthy Child Development certification is considered an asset and/or willingness to complete the required training.

Pay: $17.60 per hour
