Apparel Merchandiser

Position: Apparel Merchandiser (Import & Export Operations)

Department: Merchandising / Supply Chain

Reports To: Director of Operations

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Apparel Merchandiser with strong knowledge of garment sourcing, import procedures, and export documentation, particularly for suppliers located in China and Bangladesh and UK. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the entire order lifecycle, coordinating with overseas vendors, ensuring timely production and shipment, and maintaining compliance with all import/export requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Merchandising & Production Management

- Manage apparel orders from development through final delivery.
- Coordinate with overseas factories and vendors in UK, China and Bangladesh.
- Monitor production schedules and ensure on-time deliveries.
- Review and approve samples, fabric submissions, trims, and packaging.
- Follow up on order status, production milestones, and shipment schedules.
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, and production capacity with suppliers.
- Maintain accurate purchase orders and production records.

Import & Logistics Management

- Coordinate import shipments from Asia to North America.
- Liaise with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and shipping companies.
- Monitor vessel schedules, transit times, and delivery deadlines.
- Ensure compliance with customs regulations and import requirements.
- Track shipments and resolve transportation issues proactively.
- Calculate landed costs and assist in cost analysis.

Export Documentation Prepare, review,



and verify:

- Commercial Invoices
- Packing Lists
- Bills of Lading (BOL)
- Certificates of Origin
- GSP and trade preference documentation (where applicable)
- Export Licenses and Compliance Documents
- Inspection Certificates
- Letter of Credit (LC) documentation
- Fumigation Certificates (when required)
- Shipping Instructions

Vendor & Supplier Management

- Build and maintain strong relationships with overseas suppliers.
- Conduct regular communication regarding production, quality, and delivery.
- Resolve production issues and implement corrective actions.
- Evaluate supplier performance and recommend improvements.

Quality & Compliance

- Ensure products meet customer quality standards.
- Coordinate third-party inspections and factory audits.
- Verify compliance with social responsibility, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Monitor factory certifications and testing requirements.

Inventory & Forecasting

- Monitor inventory levels and replenishment requirements.
- Assist with demand planning and forecasting.
- Coordinate with warehouse and operations teams to ensure smooth product flow.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Merchandising, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Experience working with garment manufacturers in China and Bangladesh.
- Solid understanding of apparel production processes.
- Knowledge of international shipping, logistics,



and customs procedures.
- Experience handling import documentation and export compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with Incoterms (FOB, CIF, EXW, DDP, etc.).
- Experience working with freight forwarders and customs brokers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and ERP systems.

- Experience importing apparel into Canada and/or the United States.
- Knowledge of customs tariff classifications and duty calculations.
- Experience with retailer compliance programs.
- Familiarity with apparel testing and quality assurance standards.
- Experience working with screen printing, embroidery, and decorated apparel programs.

Job Type: Full-Time Location: On-Site

1 year Contract to cover for Maternity leave
