Séminaire en histoire médiévale: Les moines et les moniales dans la société médiévale.

Au Moyen

ge, les moines et les moniales chrétiens cherchaient à se retirer de la société et des tentations du monde, renonçant à leur propre volonté afin de se rapprocher de Dieu. Dans la pratique, cependant, les monastères étaient souvent étroitement liés aux centres de pouvoir politiques et économiques, dépendants du soutien des nobles et soucieux d’influencer la société au-delà des murs du monastère. Depuis leurs origines dans le désert syrien à la fin de l’Antiquité jusqu’aux croisades et à la Réforme protestante, ce cours examine comment les moines et les moniales ont réagi aux courants religieux et politiques de l’Europe médiévale et comment ils les ont façonnés.
